How much would it cost to tour England and Germany for a summer?

I’m planning a trip in 2009 with some friends. I’d like to know if anyone knows how much it would cost to tour both countries.

At this moment you can travel as tourist for ‘as little as $100′ a day per person, or spend anything up from there, but getting round cheaper is going to be hard work.
Spending more than $300 a day per person should not be needed, as prices are now.

If you share a old twentieth hand car between 5, do just short distance driving (petrol costs are high) and camp out in the wild where possible, in the cheapest campsites most places, you might get by with less than $20 a day, but not have a lot of fun and you will not have money to do any touristy things nor get any food but pasta and no drinks but water. Add your flights to that.

Try to safe enough money that you have $300 a day, and you will most likely have enough to go partying, or do outdoor-sports, go to musical events or whatever you fancy.
Look into getting a railcard for either country, or rent a minibus, (6 or 9 seater) in each and use a cheap airline in between (ferries cost a lot more, specially if you have to pay for a rented car too.)

Airfare from the USA to Europe can be cheap, if you buy at the right time, but try to safe up for a standard fare, so you will not be caught out by have to little money.
