How much is the average cost for a trip to France?

My school is going on a trip to France this summer. They don’t know how much it will cost this year but last year they went to France and Spain and the cost was around $3,000. the price includes airfare, hotel, the cost for the tour guide, breakfast and dinner, and transportation. I want to make sure that i am getting the best deal possible. How much is the average cost for a trip to France? thanks so much!
I’m coming from MO.

That’s a very difficult question to answer unless we know where you are coming from. Are you coming from the USA ?

EDIT: Great, I used to live in St. Louis by the way.

During the summer this year the airfare will be something less than $1200. So that leaves $1800 to pay for everything else.

Since this is a school trip I suspect you’ll be staying at someplace like the Auberge international des Jeunes where a bed in a 4 person dorm room will cost 18€ a night which includes breakfast. (Even a “real” hotel can be pretty low cost. The Hotel Tiquetonne for example has doubles for 50€ or 25€ per person)

I also figure you’ll be eating dinner at something like the little restaurants on the rue Mouffetard where you can get a three course meal with a coke for 15€. You can get a transport pass for 5.80€ a day. So that takes care of accomodation, transportation, breakfast and dinner for a total of 38.80€ a day.

A “tour guide” can be many things with a wide range of costs so that’s a lot more difficult to figure out. Most tour guides are pretty lame and worthless and those who are really good aren’t cheap. Frankly, I think that for most people its better to do your homework with a good guide book and figure out what you want to see on your own.

Anyway, that 38.80€ number comes out to about $52/day. So leaving aside the tour guide, you can do the math yourself (depending on how many days you’ll be in Paris) to figure out how much it ought to cost. In others words, the cost ought to be $1200 + $52 * (number of days) + (whatever you think a guide is worth)
