How to cope with a long distance relationship – quit my job and move back?
I’m from Vancouver and I moved to Edmonton this summer because I got a good job offer right after I graduated university. Coincidentally, my friend was also working here in Edmonton for 6 months and we started hanging out a lot. We decided to be more than just friends and now we’re in a relationship, but he’s moved back to Vancouver and I’m back in Edmonton, making our relationship long distance.
It’s going to be so hard here by myself because I’m all alone here and don’t own a car. The job I have is good and I really like it, but I’m contemplating about moving back to Vancouver. I’ve only been here 5 months though, should I wait at least until the end of this year to move back? But a year is going to be so hard and I’m worried about finding a new job in Vancouver…What would you do if you were me? I only know my co-workers and have no relatives in Edmonton. Also, there is not much to do here and the winter lasts like 8 months. We can visit each other but airfare is about $300.
The 1st question you have to ask yourself is, are you happy with your job?. You mention that its good & you like it. The reasons why you want to go back are the environment, company of people you love, etc…would these reasons part of your happiness if yes then its time to move back but you have to weigh things over, if you are just starting your career then I suggest its better you stay & learn to sacrifice until you established yourselves. Take note that you have a stable job there as compare if you will go back to Vancouver. If the love you have for each other are true, theres no need to worry. There are lots of ways to keep in touch & let the relationship grow. If ever it will not work out, then its really not meant to be.
