Can travel agencies get you cheaper fares?

I am traveling to China. I have been searching for airfares online. Can travel agencies get you cheaper fares? If so, how much cheaper? If possible, please recommend a travel agency that you have used before and feel that they got you a good deal. Thanks in advance!

It depends because sometimes they can because they buy tickets in bulk quantity so they get a discount. However to get those really cheap tickets, you may not get the miles added onto your frequent flier account as I found out the last time I went to an Asian travel agency. I would suggest you look on-line at the different airline prices and then go to an Asian travel agency to find out how much a ticket would cost. As for what travel agency, it depends on where you live. My friend uses a travel agency located in Chicago. They usually book tickets using United.
