Does anyone know about standby tickets to europe??

I know we have airtran that gives really cheap tickets as standby, but i was wondering if any of you guys know about standbye tickets to Europe. I’m a student and i’ve been looking for cheap airfare, but nothing’s cheap enough.

I know about being a student and looking for cheap airfare. It’s outrageous. Amazingly, cheapest flights are to london or madrid. Also cheaper if you don’t fly weekends. Look at flying on Mon-Thurs. Check a lot of different websites. sidestep.com, cheaptickets.com, cheapfares.com, airfare.com, cheapair.com, just yahoo search for “discount airfare” and start looking. I’ve never had luck with travelocity or expedia.

But as far as standby goes–its a big DON’T. Depending on where you are trying to go (and from what city), there is usually only 1 flight a day to that city. (London usually has 2 flights a day). Everyone knows the airlines overbook their flights to make up for the no-shows. As its mostly business travelers Mon-Thurs to London, they aren’t likely to No-show. So on a normal flight they are 100% packed. If you fly standby, you will be standing there at the airport waiting to go and once everyone gets on the plane and they annouce its full you are bumped to the next flight. Thats all well in good if you were flying NYC to Chicago and the next flight is 20 minutes later, but to Europe the next flight will probably be TOMORROW. And if you flew INTO boston, chicago or NY to make this flight you are now stuck getting a hotel in very expensive towns. It might take you 3 days to get to Europe. Plus if it’s for vacation you probably only only have a few days to begin with.

I don’t know when you were planning on going but just keep looking. The price is completely based on demand and therefore from week to week over months it will change drastically. I know people who have gotten great deals with waiting to the last minute–but I also know some people who have been screwed by it.

Now this is NOT something I did so I can’t say I recommend it. But I have heard suggestions about getting that cheap flight to Madrid and then flying a smaller European airline like Ryan Air or taking the train to the city you wish to go to. I heard Ryan Air flights are very cheap.

It takes a lot of time searching to find the best deals. Good luck. But once you get there it will be all worth it.

Cheap Airfares- Top Tips To Guarantee You Get The Cheapest Possible Price!

Travelling to an exotic destination without exceeding the budget is perhaps the dream of any travel lover. When most people think of airlines that offer cheap airfares the airlines that usually come to mind are names like JetBlue, AirTran or Southwest. While these airlines are known for providing great rates, other airlines are now stepping up their game and presenting excellent cheap airfares deals in an attempt to become the budget-minded traveler’s best friend.

Conventional airlines like Continental, United and American are now marketing lower priced air tickets to match up with the recent market trends in an attempt to cater to and attract more budget conscious travelers. The main motive behind slashing down airfare rates these airlines is that it is enabling them to return to prosperity and making it possible to excel in the competition against their low-priced opponents.

Airlines provide passengers with exclusive deals for different reasons. While some may have special promotions, the main reason is usually because they are forced to do so by competition. It is wise to be on the lookout for exclusive cheap airfares deals from different airlines. One good way to keep track of all the sales and promotions is to sign up to receive newsletters from each company’s website. That way you will be informed when they have all deals on airline prices. It is sensible to compare all available deals online since new deals are offered on daily basis. Few good sites include SkyScanner, Momondo, Mobissimo, Dohop, and Trabber.

Booking agencies will help you to hunt for the best rates and in turn they will ask you to pay a fixed charge about $5 to buy the air tickets. If you are running short on time, it is recommended that you visit the airline website prior to paying the booking agencies to see what there prices are. Purchasing tickets directly from the airline helps you to get rid of the possibility of error in ticket booking. In addition, not all airlines register their tickets with the booking agencies therefore it is wise to check the official site directly for cheap airfares.  Popular airline websites offering competitively low rates are Airtran, Alaska, Allegiant air, America West, American Airlines, Continental, Delta, Frontier, Jet Blue, Midwest Express, Northwest, Southwest, Sun Country, Spirit, U.S. Airways and United Airlines.

Once you have checked the price on the carrier’s website, head over to the booking agencies for comparison. A few famous booking agencies are Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity, Cheaptickets, Hotwire, Oxio and Priceline.

Abide by the tips and you are guaranteed to get the cheapest possible airfare price regardless of the travel destination.
