Nepal Airfare

Nepali News…May 20th, 2008

What is the average airfare to Nepal from Chicago?

My husband and I are planning to adopt a child from Nepal and may have to travel there twice. We don’t know what time of the year it will be and need to estimate airfare expenses.

hey…I actually flew from Chicago to Nepal last summer! First I flew to LA say a couple hundred…and then my flight to Thailand was $1700 but I was with a group so we may have gotten a discount. Then I think the final flight to Nepal was a couple hundred. Sorry this probably isn’t much help…prices flux so much depending on when you buy your ticket so it’s really hard to say. I’d put aside a few thousand for each of you just in case and then search like mad for a seat sale. I think that’s so amazing you want to adopt a Nepali child. They are some of the most beautiful people in the world!! And if you’ve never been to Nepal it’s one of the most mind-blowing, beautiful places in the world!! Good luck!

Everest Base CAmp Trek

Everest base camp trekking is a famous and challenging trek in Khumbu Nepal. The trek is famous for its spectacular mountain peaks and friendliness of its inhabitants (Sherpa). The Everest region (Khumbu) is one of the most popular destinations for tourists in Nepal. Next day, we continue our trekking to Kala Pattar and subsequently to Everest base camp; we have one day rest in Dingboche or Pheriche in between and for some side trips and further acclimatization. Discount Travel Saves You A Bundle

Everybody loves to travel, but it is an expensive recreation for most. However, the cost of traveling should not stop anyone from enjoying himself or herself, as long you become adept at discount travel. Airfare is the most costly element of travel, so your ability to find discount flight options becomes handy.

Airline ticket prices fluctuate wildly, depending on the season, the popularity of the route etc. In the US a short international flight from New York City to Montreal, Canada, for example, costs approximately $300, while for about the same price, you can take a much longer domestic flight from, for example, New York all the way to Los Angeles. Regardless of the length of the route, domestic flights are cheaper than international flights as airlines are subject to less taxes and regulations, and these routes often carry more travelers so airlines can afford a discount.

To take advantage of this discount, you can split your international flight into two flights. Despite the small inconvenience, it is definitely cheaper than flying direct internationally. For example, to fly from northern US to South America, it is probably much cheaper to first fly domestic to a southern hub such as Miami, and then taking an international flight to South America. When searching for discount travel tickets, you want to fly as close as possible to your destination domestically, and you also want to fly between major hubs because the cheapest domestic tickets will always be between major hubs such as New York and LA.

Another popular discount travel flight option is charter flights. A standard airline generally has a set route and set schedule between two cites regardless of the amount of passengers. Standard airlines thus charge higher airfares in order to maintain these scheduled routes even if the plane is not half-full. On the other hand, charter companies usually charter an entire plane from an airline for a specific date and time, and therefore receive a good discount, which in turn is passed on to passengers. Airfares for charter flights also tend to get even cheaper as the departure date approaches. However, charter flights are also quite restrictive, in that there is a higher risk of charter companies canceling flights if enough tickets are not sold, and since there aren’t that many charter flights to multiple destinations, you may not be put on another flight immediately. You would probably receive a refund or you would probably have to wait one or two days for other charter flights.

The important thing about discount travel is to explore as many options as possible. If you are willing to be more flexible and to buy tickets on short notice, the cheaper your fare will be.

St Patrick’s Day Destinations

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated by a number of nations worldwide generally on the 17th of March to commemorate Saint Patrick, one of the legendary patron saints of Ireland. To the Irish and Irish at heart, St. Patrick’s Day is the most festive event, celebrated in large cities and small towns with parades, music, Irish food and drink, parades, fun activities for children and most importantly, “the wearing of green”. Though St. Patrick’s Day was originally celebrated by people of Irish decent, today the event is becoming increasingly popular among people of other ethnic backgrounds, particularly in New Zealand, Argentina, and North America. St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated as one of the most festive holidays in Ireland, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Montserrat, New Zealand, Uruguay and the United States.

In Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day was initially celebrated as a religious holiday until it was made a public holiday in 1903. The first St. Patrick’s Day parade was held in the Irish Free State in 1931 during the time the Minister of defense, Desmond Fitzgerald was serving. In the mid 1990s the Irish Government devised a strategy to use St. Patrick’s Day to showcase and celebrate Irish culture. The government established the St. Patrick’s Day festival to spread excitement throughout Ireland, encourage people of Irish decent and Irish at heart to attend the celebrations and to communicate to the world, the image of Ireland as a creative, proficient and sophisticated country. In 1996, the first St. Patrick’s Day festival was held. It became a three day event in 1997, a four day event by 2000 and ultimately by 2006 it was five days long. Apart from Dublin, other towns and villages that hold their own parades and festivals, include Belfast, Cork, Derry, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick, and Waterford. Downpatrick, of County Down, sees the biggest celebrations, besides Dublin, where St. Patrick is rumored to be buried after his death in 461.

Argentina sees the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day with night long parties in select streets until eight in the morning. The celebration is particularly popular in downtown street Reconquista, Buenos Aires where there are a number of Irish pubs such as the Matias Irish Pub.

St. Patrick’s Day parades and celebrations have been held in Canada since 1824. The most festive and longest parade in Canada occurs in Montreal, the flag of which has the symbol of a shamrock in one of its corners. The Irish Association of Manitoba, runs the annual three day festival based around St. Patrick’s Day. In Vancouver, the annual festival is celebrated with parades and other events in the weekend closest to St. Patrick’s Day. The St. Patrick’s Day celebration and parade in Toronto attracts over 100,000 spectators. There are many Irish pubs in Canada such as Alberta’s Calgary Irish pub, Edmonton Irish pubs, Vancouver’s Irish Heather, Montreal’s McLean’s pub and Manitoba’s Shannons Irish pub.

In Great Britain, the Queen Mother used to present bowls of Shamrock from Ireland to members of the Irish guards. The Irish guards continue to wear shamrock from Ireland on this day. The horse racing at the Cheltenham Festival, attracts a large number of Irish people worldwide. Beside Dublin and New York, Birmingham hold’s the third biggest parade of the world, spreading over two miles through the city centre. St. Patrick’s Day parade is usually held in Trafalgar square, on a weekend closest to the 17th. Other places that celebrate St. Patrick’s Day include Liverpool, Manchester, Coatbridge and Glasgow. Hennessey’s Bar, Waxy O’Connors, London Irish Centre and The Spanish arch are some of the Irish pubs in Great Britain.

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in the United States by Irish and non Irish alike. Many cities including Seattle paint the traffic stripes green while Chicago, Jamestown and Indianapolis dye their water streams green. Many parades mark the event of St. Patrick’s Day in the United States in places such as Savannah, Hot Springs, New York City, Seattle and Las Vegas. There are many Irish pubs in the US such as Hawaii’s Mulligans on the Blue, New York’s Flannery’s Irish Pub and A Piece of Ireland, Delaware.

St. Patrick’s Day is also widely celebrated in Montserrat, Australia and Uruguay in regions with many Irish pubs. Celebrated by Christians and non Christians alike, St. Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest and most festive celebrations of the world. Though the holiday remains primarily a religious observance, especially in Ireland, the outward celebration of the event is enjoyed by all.

Farecompare News Story – Relaunch of FareCompare.com, home of Cheap Flights

what makes for a cheaper winter vacation: hawaii or florida?

Florida is always cheaper. Hawaii is ridiculously expensive.

Cheap Flights And Airfares – How To Find The Best Deals

One of the easiest and most efficient ways of searching for your next flight deal is to use one of the latest flight and airfare comparison websites. These services are usually free to use and provide an extremely efficient and comprehensive method of comparing multiple airline and flight consolidator website services.

The most recent flight and airfare comparison websites are now configured to include price and live availability searches on full schedule airlines, low cost budget flights and holiday charter services, all search results are returned and presented in a comprehensive and easy to read display for easy price comparison. Some airfare comparison websites now include discount airfare displays and availability from leading UK flight consolidators, as well as direct from the airline, giving you more choice and value than ever before.

By using one of the latest and comprehensive flight and airfare search facilities you save yourself a great deal of time, effort and money. Major flight comparison websites now include optional advanced search tools, these tools enhance and quicken the travel search process. Advanced search tools include the option to specify certain search criteria, which in turn can help you to find the best flight deal for your itinerary. You can search by flight departure time range, specific airline selection, you can also request results to include cheaper airfares within a specific departure date range, plus you have the facility to include searches using ‘low cost airline’ options.

Airfare and discount flight availability can be displayed by cheapest airfare price first or by specific airline, departure time or by flight duration. Select the flight deal that suites you, then use the ‘Best Priced Supplier’ to make a direct reservation. Click on the “Select” button and you will be redirected to the airline or suppliers secure website to complete your booking direct. Other helpful tips on finding great flight deals include:

1. Book early to catch the ‘early booking’ deals. Some cheaper fares require a minimum 21day advance booking period.

2. Flying out on a weekend is usually more expensive, try flying mid-week Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

3. Subscribing to airline newsletters is the best way of staying ahead of the crowds. Most airlines now circulate airfare news in their weekly or monthly newsletter, including latest special offers and incentives plus the dates when reservations open for a new flight season.

4. Try not to restrict yourself to flying from one particular airport, the more choice you give yourself the better chance you have at finding a cheaper deal.

5. Flying on a direct or non-stop service is not always cheaper. Very often the cheapest deals will involve a number of stops or change of aircraft or both.

6. Look out for the ‘include budget airlines’ search option on price comparison travel sites.
Remember, budget (no-frills) airlines don’t always have the cheapest deals, especially the closer you get to departure date. Prices can change very quickly so don’t forget to check all flight options including flights with full service-airlines.

7. If possible, be flexible with travel dates, this will help you find those cheap fares. Most flight search systems display prices for flights either side of your chosen date, in order for you to see how much you could save by amending your itinerary or travel plans.

8. If flying to a holiday destination out of season, look out for last minute cheap one way charter fares, but remember, it might not be as easy or as cheap when trying to book your return flight.

To get the best overview of the cheapest flights available, don’t forget to use a Flight and Airfare Comparison ‘multiple website’ search facility.

Airfare Last Minute

airfare last minute

Finding Cheap Last Minute Airfare Deals

If you do not have time constraints then choosing last-minute reservation deals will be the best option if you want to find cheap airfares. Sometimes you are required to travel on a very short notice, in these cases buying a last-minute deal online will save you a lot of money. Lets find out how to find such deals online.

Last-minute deals are offered by most of the airlines in order to sell all their tickets for a particular flight. Mostly they advertise such deals on their websites. Some airlines hire consolidators who in turn try to locate target customers and sell them tickets at very low rates. You have to be a member of one such online consolidator website in order to benefit from this opportunity.

Sometimes last-minute deals are offered only at particular days (for example weekends) and only for a few destination locations. You have to check these websites out to see if your location is listed on the special offers list. If you cant find one good deal at a particular website you can search on other websites as well. There are so many travel websites out there that sometimes it becomes confusing and difficult to choose one of them. But of course spending a little time online will help you see which ones of them are suitable for your location, budget and travel dates.

If you are in hurry then driving to the nearest airport and checking for last-minute reservation deals will prove to be useful. Remember that last-minute deals are offered anywhere between 3 hours to 14 days before the flight. So it does not really mean that if you are approaching the airport a little earlier than last minute, you cant get a good deal. Therefore, it is better to check on the websites first before booking.

Most of these deals require that you book 2 weeks in advance. In addition to this, you are sometimes also required to choose a deal that includes hotel and car in the package. These last-minute deals often let you save up to 70% of your airfare and other travel expenses. Such deals sell out very fast, within hours of their first announce, so do not waste time if you have planned to avail such an opportunity. Remember that all packages offered by an airline are listed at their website, so do not think that you might get a special reserved package just by arriving at the airport before your flight.

If you are looking for a special last-minute deal for a holiday trip, such as for skiing or going to play golf, then narrow down your search or use the keyword search facility offered by these websites. Last-minute packages do not normally include individual tickets for airline travel or hotel reservations. As already mentioned, you will have to buy the whole package including airfare and hotel accommodation and sometimes including car as well. So plan your trip accordingly so that you can benefit fully from these offers.
