Finding Metal With Metal Detectors

David Marc Fishman asked:

The main part of metal detectors is the control box, shaft, and search coil. Control box which has speaker, batteries, and microprocessor coordinates all activities. To protect the food source many companies use metal detectors to check for metal contaminates in the food, and some drug companies use the metal detectors to check for the same thing in drugs.

Besides metal detection, a walk-through metal detector includes and interface for an operator and a control unit plus environmental tolerance, electro magnetic compatibility, and the assurance of quality control. The control box is the brain of a metal detector. The magnetized metallic objects under the ground send a signal to the control box. Metal detectors that are used in mining need to be compact because of the space restrictions so the control unit and the search coil are integrated into a single unit.

This disk comes off the shaft at an angle, which allows it to be held parallel to the ground. Hand held detectors come in various types, professional, commercial, all-purpose, gold metal, beach and metal that is a relic. Many people use metal detectors to comb the beach for treasures, people are looking for coins, or any other type of metals that might produce a wealth of income. If you are walking along a beach you might come across many people with their instruments looking for these treasures. Since 911 security has gotten tougher and many airports and schools have turned to metal detectors, as well and government buildings, hand held metal detectors are often an important part of security procedures.

A great method of locating and preventing the use of dangerous items such as handguns or knives is the hand held metal detector. They are hand held security metal detectors and walk through metal detectors. Walk over or hand held models of metal detectors are normally used in airports.

Best rated walk through metal detectors have high target selection, low rate of false alarm, consistent detection, and a two way directional system. Cheap metal detectors are available in hand held, waterproof, and walk through models. Walk through metal detectors offer quick and effective processing.

Underwater metal detectors can cost around $400-$600. Underwater metal detectors are widely used to locate metallic objects under water. Underwater construction companies use underwater metal detectors for pipeline or cable locating functions. Some of the underwater metal detectors can adjust the search depth.

Advanced security metal detectors use low radiation x-rays for screening. Many metal detectors have microprocessor technology to check for coarse grained food in cornflakes, popcorn and noodles. Advanced gold detectors can also resist dust and moisture. Some of the advanced gold metal detectors have three modes for speed tracking.

Usually, the price of a metal detector starts from $65. Some sites offer price discounts.

Most sites provide a price list for metal detectors. The price of metal detectors may vary, based on features and functions. If you are just starting out it is a good idea to purchase an inexpensive model before sinking the dollars into the hobby.

Tragic Triumph of the Ghost Gorilla

Mugambo asked:

When he was captured in the African country of Equatorial Guinea in 1966 (or ’67 depending on the source), he was proclaimed a miracle by the local villagers. But the real miracle was the fact that he managed to live to the ripe old age of 40 (80 in human years).

HIS NAME WAS SNOWFLAKE AND THIS IS HIS STORY

Snowflake’s first encounter with Lady Luck was when he was discovered as an orphaned gorilla by a hunter. Whether the particulars of his discovery are accurate or not, what is not in question is the good fortune that landed him in the hands of a Spanish naturalist for the princely sum of sixty pounds.

Snowflake suffered from a condition known as albinism (individuals with this condition are referred to as albinos) which occurs in individuals who lack the pigment melanin. Albinos typically have very pale skin and are also very sensitive to the sun and light in general.

There are those who may argue that it was misfortune rather than fortune that ultimately landed Snowflake in captivity, but the reality is, an albino gorilla would have next to no chance of surviving in the wild. Not only would Snowflake have had to deal with the daily ravages of ultra-violet rays from the equatorial sun, but due to his color he also would have been a walking food advertisement for natural gorilla predators.

Okay granted, gorillas have few predators other than man, but they do exist, and the one that springs foremost to mind is the leopard. The white color of his hair (gorillas have hair not fur) would have made Snowflake unmistakably easy to spot in the wild by a prowling predator such as a leopard, be it night or day.

Anyway assuming tale of his discovery is accurate, it may suggest that Snowflake was ostracized and ultimately abandoned by his gorilla group, including his mother. And why not! This scenario is not too far fetched; if man is not above discrimination or ostracization of those who are different, even in this present day and age, why should we expect radically different behavior from gorillas who also happen to be

HOW A COLORLESS GORILLA PUT THE COLOR BACK INTO BARCELONA ZOO

Barcelona city embraced Snowflake as one of their own, or more accurately, they simply adored him! Known as Copito de nieve in Spanish, Snowflake soon enough became the City Mascot and the overwhelming crowd-puller at Barcelona Zoo. The young white gorilla was featured on postcards, stamps and posters and was responsible for drawing millions of tourists to the zoo.

But how did all that new found fame affect Snowflake? Well, in his 37 years at the zoo, Snowflake fathered 22 offspring (grandkids included) from three females, gawking tourists notwithstanding. Much has been made of his scowling demeanor and apparent irascible temperament, but as mentioned before albinos suffer from extreme sensitivity to light and thus characteristically squint…which on the face of a gorilla may seem like scowling.

Also it should come as no surprise that Snowflake was not much inclined to gambol and frolic in the sun for the zoo visitors’ entertainment…his condition largely precluded such tendencies.

And so what if Snowflake wasn’t always amenable to playing the game of be-nice-for-the tourists. Would you? Just imagine how you would feel if you were subjected to constant scrutiny, day-in-day-out, by rude, bad mannered hairless apes (people).

Having said that though, Snowflake’s situation could have been much worse; if he had stayed in the wild it is highly unlikely that he would have survived for long. Also, by the time Snowflake was introduced to Barcelona Zoo, many of the misconceptions about gorilla lifestyles had since been resolved.

It was due to such prevailing ignorance with respect to gorillas that not long before gorillas in zoos were fed on a diet of meat and kept in solitary cells. For a gregarious, vegetarian species, such conditions had to be sheer torture!

DEATH OF A STAR

Like any well known celebrity, Snowflake’s death in late 2003 caused a minor ripple on the Richter scale, and by the time the dust finally settled what remained was a city one-in-mourning yet strangely divided. (Snowflake was put to sleep because the symptoms of the malignant melanoma (cancer) which was diagnosed in 2001 were becoming increasingly painful…besides he was pretty old for a gorilla)

There’re many who claimed and felt that the zoo authorities had unashamedly exploited the ailing gorilla to the point of undue cruelty. The zoo authorities countered that they were merely giving the citizens of Barcelona the chance to bid a final farewell to the most famous of their eminent sons. But like a hit movie oozing with sequel potential the good folks at the zoo left nothing to chance.

Although none of Snowflake’s offspring turned out as albinos the authorities were indeed hoping to breed a dominant variant of the gene (another albino gorilla) from the offspring gene-pool. It is not unreasonable to speculate that they were hoping to recapture Snowflake’s superstar appeal with a next-gen Ghost Gorilla.

Scary Ghost Story – "sold Shadow"

Sammy Davis asked:

“Sold Shadow”

More than a century ago there lived a family. It all started when Katherine’s mother was dying. Before she died, she lay in bed for 3 days unconscious. Modern doctors would says she was in a coma. Before her very death she woke up, looked around the room, saw her daughter Katherine and said to her in a very small voice:

- My dear Katherine. Just now I was in heaven, angels showed me everything what awaits me. But I also saw what awaits you. My poor daughter, on by one you will be carrying out coffins out of the house, and in those coffins will be your children, my grandchildren. As she said those words, she cried like she never cried before in her life.

Katherine was stunned by her mother’s words, she didn’t know how to react: was it all just nonsense, just a dream that her mother saw, or was it a prophecy of a person that did just visit heaven. Fear of losing her children was stronger than her doubts.

- Mother – said Katherine – tell me what should I do, how can I help my children, is it really my destiny to carry them all to our churchyard? Katherine’s dying mother closed her eyes and whispered in a weakened voice:

- I don’t know, if I did, I would tell you.

Then she opened her eyes for the last time and whispered with her last breath:

- If I find out how… then… I’ll let you know… from there… somehow…

Katherine’s mother was buried the next day, after three days Katherine’s youngest daughter followed her grandmother into the grave. Strong and healthy girl’s death was unexpected. Unexpected for everyone, except Katherine. When she found her daughter dead one morning, she knew, that it was the beginning of a tragedy her dying mother prophesized. One more daughter died after that, then Katherine’s son and 2 more children after that. Katherine’s neighbors stayed away from her house, afraid that the curse might fall on them as well. After one more son died, almost nobody came to his funeral and Katherine behaved as if she didn’t notice that. Her husband was afraid she might go insane.

At night Katherine ran to the graveyard, not to her children’s graves, but to her mother’s grave. The husband found her there as she was hitting the grave, screaming:

- You promised me you would let me know how to save your grandchildren. You promised!

Katherine’s husband didn’t know about the prophecy, he was at work that day and Katherine promised her mother not to tell anyone about it. He thought he would find her on one of her children’s graves, but she was on her mother’s grave screaming about some promise. So he thought Katherine has gone insane.

One early morning. Katherine knocked on an old woman’s window. The old woman asked her:

- Why are you here? I can’t help you.

Katherine then dropped to her knees, crying and begging not to kick her out, but to help her in the name of Christ. She said that her dead mother told her to come here and that she wanted only one thing: to save the remaining three of her nine children. Then the old woman said:

- You can save your children if you sell your shadow, but that is a sin and I can’t tell you how to do it. Accept it and go home, I can’t help you with this, because I don’t want to take that sin. I hope you understand.

After a couple of minutes the old woman heard a scream in her backyard. Her neighbor managed to get mad with grief Katherine out of the halter. After some time the old woman got Katherine back on her feet, asked for forgiveness and told her how to save her children.

- Go to the fair and offer people your shadow, and tell the one who will want to buy it, that the price is the lives of your three children. And remember, you’re not only selling your shadow, but your selling your life. When one of you children turns thirty three you will leave this world…

When Katherine jumped up from her knees, willing to give her life for her children, the old woman smiled bitterly and said:

- Now that is a mother’s heart. What can I say, you’re about to do a great deed and don’t want any reward neither from people nor from God. Therefore I will reward you, not myself, but through my daughter. I won’t be alive by then. When one of your children will be about to turn thirty three, find my daughter and tell her my secret word – the key, then she won’t refuse to help you with your sin. And now try to remember the word.

Many years later Katherine came to the old woman’s daughter and told her, what happened to her. She ran to the fair like the wind, but when she got there she was confused and scared. Katherine pulled herself together and came up to a woman.

- Would you like to buy my shadow? – Katherine asked in a very small voice.

The woman looked at Katherine as if she was insane and edged away. Katherine started coming up to people and offering them her shadow. Nobody answered her roughly, some gave her money and one woman gave her a bun. Everybody felt sorry for the insane woman – people were a lot nicer back then.

Katherine went through the whole fair and didn’t find anybody interested in buying her shadow. She sat by the fence crying, thinking this will not work. And then she heard:

- Are you the one who is selling her shadow?

Katherine looked up and saw a man dressed in clothes that were not from that time. His clothes were made of fabric Katherine has never saw before. The color of the clothes was black, but with some unusual spark. He was wearing a top hat and had a snake like cane. The head of the snake had life like eyes. Anyway Katherine thought saw at that moment.

The man leaned forward and it looked as if he had no spine. Their faces were so close, they almost touched. As Katherine was looking into his eyes she saw everything that was going around. It was almost like nobody noticed her companion, though this persons clothes were hard to miss. But nobody paid any attention to them.

- I said, are you the one who is selling her shadow? – the stranger lightly raised his voice.

- Me – Katherine whispered.

- And how much do you want for it? – the strange man asked.

Katherine pulled herself together and firmly answered:

- I want my children to live.

- Accepted! – the stranger said shortly, and before he disappeared, Katherine saw his pupils narrow and widen a few times. The last thing she saw where his fingers with incredibly long nails.

The man in the strange clothes disappeared. For a moment Katherine felt a piercing pain, as if her soul was taken out of her, then the pain left her body, but she had a strange feeling in her heart now, the feeling we have before something bad is about to happen.

Normal life was going around Katherine. People bargained, offered their goods, music was playing loudly. Katherine stood up, looked around, thought for a second and came up to woman who was standing nearby. Katherine asked her what she thought of the gentleman in the strange clothes, but from the look on the woman’s face Katherine understood that there was no gentleman or she just didn’t see him.

When Katherine got back to her village, she was afraid to go in to her house. The thought of one of her children dying when she was away scared her. But thankfully the children where safe and sound. Katherine and her husband never had to carry coffins to the churchyard ever again.

A lot of time has passed since then. A year before Katherine’s son turned thirty three she saw a dream. Two women came into the house. One was her dead mother and the other – the old woman who helped Katherine. They refused to sit down, because they just came to tell her, the time when she will leave this world is close, and if she wants to live, she should go to the old woman’s daughter and tell her the secret word.

Katherine came to the old woman’s daughter and told her the same story I told you.

My fiance plans on joining the army?

Miss Lady *its a boy* DUE APRIL asked:

I am currently pregnant and due in 2 weeks with our first child. As soon as my fiance takes his ASVAB and gets accepted, we plan on getting married (after the baby comes of course-because of insurance). We both know that he will be gone for a while for basic & AIT- we’ve talked to the recruiter which is his cousin but we still have lots of questions! Now since we’ll be married-
1.will he make more money?
2. WHEN will i be able to move in with him?
3. Can you request NOT to leave the country(as in germany, japan, etc…)
4.Do army FAMILIES get discounted airfare, or would it just be my husband? So if we wanted to fly our parents out to visit us, could we get them discount plane tickets? And what about my plane ticket?
5. WHILE he is gone for AIT & basic, would i go on base to get my and babys health care? Or would i be covered at my original doctors office?
6. When do me and the baby start receiving healthcare benefits through the military? right after he joins?

The recruiter has answered most of our questions, but we still feel kind of uneasy and would like some extra input!
Thanks alot!

How Do You Find The Best Airfare Packages?

Many problems arise when we plan a vacation and start searching for cheap airlines. Whether we search online or through local travel consolidators, success is not always guaranteed. Getting the best airfare deal depends on a lot of factors; timing and experience are just two of these factors. You will need to learn a few tips and tricks in order to find a really good package, if not the best. But even if you cant manage to find the cheapest airfare that you expected, flying on a special package and saving a few dollars will boast your spirits and you will try harder the next time you plan a vacation. Lets discuss some of the tips that will come handy when you are ready to buy your next airline ticket.

Remember that international airfares keep fluctuating between low and high depending upon the demand of a particular flight. You may want to delay your trip if the prices are too high and do not seem to come down in the near future. However, if you cant delay your flight then look out for other airlines in your area. Sometimes just out of competition airlines keep offering cheap and special airfare packages to their customers.

When you are looking for airfares online, make sure to compare them with other airline packages. Sometimes people just find a good attractive site listing a lot of features and services and immediately book seats with them. Try to find at least 2 or 3 good sites and then book with them. There are many websites out there that let you compare different airlines. The timings of the flights may differ but it doesnt really matter if you are not going on a business meeting and time is not crucial. Some websites also offer last-minute reservations that can be booked way in advance, like 2 weeks before the day of departure. But do keep in mind that airlines can change their rates anytime and any day without notice. Therefore, if possible wait for the departure day and then book seats some hours before the flight.

Many factors contribute in the pricing strategy of an airline. Keep track of these day-to-day changes, such as weather changes, some big political event, international sporting event, an increase in the fuel cost and so on. Flights get canceled and delayed all the time. Delayed flights are likely to have seats left over and airlines will try to sell those seats off at very low prices. Travel consolidators are also looking out for such chances. Always keep in touch with one of these consolidators or wholesalers, either online or offline. They will really help you out when the time of your departure comes near.

Last minute deals and other special packages are also offered to certain destination locations, national or international. When you start your search, do not forget to find these kinds of deals for the location you have in mind. Sometimes these deals let you save up to even 70% of your airfare. Courier travel is always an option if other opportunities are running thin. If you like traveling alone and have a lot of time on your hands then a good courier deal will save you a lot of money.

Do not waste time if you are not able to find anything good on the Internet. These days there is a lot of competition going on between online consolidator websites and therefore it is very unlikely that you wont be able to find a good deal once you are up there. Still if nothing satisfies you then contact your local travel consolidator and ask for help. You can delay your flight as well and provide your criteria to one of these websites. Whenever there is a match they will contact you immediately. Whatever you choose, make sure to double check the kind of deal you like on other websites. If possible ask your friends and colleagues if they have traveled on the same package and how did they find it. Remember that experiencing something yourself will be the best of teachers. Even if the last experience did not turn out to be a good one, use it as a guide for your next trip.

Airfare Questions:

Do you know of any summer camps (sports camps) you have gone to that you would recommend to other people? ?

I live in Arizona, and wouldn’t be able afford anything over $1,000 including airfare. Also I wouldn’t be able to go out of country.

Things I would probably like would be ATV, Archery, Softball, Horseback Riding, Ice Skating, Kayaking, Painting, Rafting, Rappelling, Riflery, Rock Climbing, Sailing, Scuba, Skiing, Snowboarding, Soccer, Surfing, Swimming, Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball, Water Skiing, Windsurfing.

So if you could please tell me about any summer you have been to that were fun, or really awesome that would be a HUGE help.

Go to Woodward. I have friends who went and they say it kicks ass. You get to skate, swim, BMX, and other hardcore stuff.

Haunted Ships – The Queen Mary

Denise Villani asked:

The Queen Mary has been a permanent feature in Long Beach, California for a couple fo decades and is one of the most famous cruise ships of all time. The ship has become a hotel, museum and popular tourist attraction, and the historic ship is internationally recognized and attracts thousands of visitors every year. Besides the living guests, the ship is said to play host to several ghosts. It has been speculated that the Queen Mary might be one of the most haunted places in the world. Reports say that as many as 150 known spirits have taken up residence and lurk in various locations all around the ship.

The Queen Mary sailed her maiden voyage on May 27, 1936. Built in Scotland to be used as part of a two-ship express service from Southampton to Cherbourg to New York, the Queen Mary is 1,000 feet long, and in her day was said to be bigger, faster and more powerful than the Titanic. She also held the record for the fastest-ever North Atlantic crossing. The historic ocean liner’s passengers included the most celebrated people of the time, including royalty, top entertainment figures and important world leaders.

At the start of World War II in 1939, luxury travel stopped and the ship was turned into a carrier ship that was used by allied forces to carry troops from March of 1940 to September of 1946. It was during this time that she would become known as “The Grey Ghost”. By the end of World War II, the ship had carried more than 700,000 troops, traveled over 500,000 miles and played a significant role in almost every major Allied campaign. She also survived a collision at sea, set the record for carrying the most people ever on a floating vessel (16,683), and participated in the D-Day invasion.

When the war ended, the Queen Mary was refurbished and started up her elegant cruises again in July, 1947, with weekly service between Southampton, Cherbourg, and New York. By the early 1960′s, the popularity of transatlantic cruises greatly decreased due to the increasing affordability of air travel. The ship attempted to revive its popularity, but without central air condtioning, outdoor pools, or other amenities offered on most other cruise ships, the attempt was unsuccessful.

In 1967, the Queen Mary was pulled from service and was sold to the city of Long Beach, California, to be used as a maritime museum and hotel. On December 9, 1967, she made her final voyage to Long Beach.

During her 60-year history, the Queen Mary was the site of 49 reported deaths, opening the doorway for potential spirits to haunt her. Reported hauntings include a young crewman in the engine room, swimmers in the first-class pool, a man in black, and a woman in blue. Some of the Queen Mary’s most haunted places include the propeller box, engine room, boiler room, cargo hold and first class swimming pool.

One of these hauntings is thought to be the spirit of John Pedder, a fireman in his late teens who was crushed to death by a watertight door in 1966 during a routine drill. Unexplained knocking has been heard around the door, and a tour guide reported she saw a figure dressed in dark clothing as she was leaving the area where the young man had been killed. She saw his face and recognized him from his photographs. He was dressed in blue coveralls and sporting a beard. The young man has often been seen walking along Shaft Alley before disappearing by door number 13. This famous door was used in the filming of the Posiedon Adventure and has reportedly crushed at least two men during the ship’s history.

The first-class swimming pool seems to be a hot spot for ghostly encounters. Wet footprints mysteriously appear even though there’s not a drop of water in the pool. These footsteps lead from the deck of the pool to the changing rooms. Women in vintage bathing suits are occasionally seen stopping by for a swim ,even though the pool has been closed for more than 30 years. There have also been reports of seeing the spirit of a young girl carrying her teddy bear along with disembodied voices, laughter and splashing sounds.

In the second class pool area the spirit of another little girl named Jackie is often been seen and heard. The girl drowned in the pool during the ship’s sailing days and doesn’t seem to want to move on. Her voice and the sound of laughter has been captured in this area.

In the room that was used as the third class playroom, there have been reports of the sound of children crying in the nursery room. There is also a report that a single baby’s cry has been heard. This crying is thought to be that of an infant boy who died there shortly after he was born.

In some of the first-class staterooms there have been reports of a tall, dark haired man wearing a 1930′s style suit showing up in various places. In addition to sightings of the man, the faucets and lights get turned on in the middle of the night, and phones ring in the early morning hours but no one is ever on the other end of the line.

There are several other reports of sightings about the ship including a beautiful young woman in an elegant white evening gown who dances alone in a shadowy corner of the salon, which was once used as the ship’s first-class lounge. Another mysterious woman in white has been seen close to the front desk. She will usually disappear behind a pillar.

Other phenomena that has been reported throughout the ship include the sounds of knocking, doors slamming and high pitched squeals, drastic temperature changes, and the recurring smells of another time.

The Queen Mary has been investigated by a number of paranormal professionals, printed publications, television shows like Ghost Hunters and Most Haunted, and several others. In addition to portions of the movie “The Poseidon Adventure” being filmed there, the X-Files filmed a 1998 WWII era episode about a time warp in the Bermuda Triangle aboard the ship. That was a great episode – it was called “Triangle” – you should check it out if you missed it!

On the Ghost Hunters episode, what was thought to be a fantastic paranormal event caught on tape turned out to be not so fantastic as it appeared someone had tampered with the video camera. So is the Queen Mary really haunted or not? The Ghost Hunters are heading back out there in February of 2008 to see if they can find out. Hopefully there won’t be any tampering this time and they can capture some evidence to support all the claims of paranormal activity on the Queen Mary.

Fact Sheet for Booking Gold Coast Accommodation, Australia

Terry Hely asked:

Copyright (c) 2008 Terry Hely

A simple overview of this market is that when an apartment is bought by an investor who is not going to live in it, the unit is placed in a holiday letting pool. The management rights to the letting pool are offered for sale and the successful buyers, most commonly a husband a wife team, then go about the business of getting bums in beds on behalf of the owners. The managers receive a percentage commission on the bookings they secure and that becomes a part of their livelihood.

The Gold Coast is Australia’s favourite holiday playground and highrise resorts and apartment blocks stretch as far as the eye can see, from Southport in the north all the way to Coolangatta in the south. With so many properties to choose from it seems a safe bet there will always be plenty of accommodation available and the need to book early is a myth perpetuated by the accommodation industry.

Believe that at your peril because a quick reality check shows that the accommodation actually available for casual bookings is really quite a small portion of the total.

- As much as 60% to 70% of the visible accommodation is occupied by permanent residents. The apartments are not in any letting pool.

- Apartments are often pre-booked for the following season, especially when families are locked into school holiday dates for their annual vacations.

- Many apartments are committed to major travel wholesalers and tour group operators and are locked-out from casual bookings.

- Gold Coast festival and event organisers commonly place large block bookings for participants, team members, sponsors and support organisations

So when you are advised to book early, it’s because you may well miss out if you don’t! The most common reason why holiday makers fail to find accommodation on the Gold Coast is that their enquiry was too late.

* How Far In Advance For Bookings?

High Season is the Xmas – New Year holiday period. It’s generally from around the 20th Dec to 20th Jan. but dates will vary between locations and between properties.Bookk at least 4-5 months in advance and some managers recommend even earlier in the very popular locations such as Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise.

Mid Season is usually the September – October school holidays and the Easter long week. Some properties also include the June-July school holidays, but that is now rather uncommon. Book at least 3-4 months in advance. The Indy 300 Motor Race carnival is usually charged at mid-season rates although some track-side properties charge premium rates.

Low Season is all other dates and availability is generally OK at these times, but booking 60 days in advance is strongly recommended. There are numerous festivals and events throughout the year that result in increased demand for apartments. The low season is usually the best time for special offers which are usually offered as a free night along the lines of “stay 5 pay 4″ or “stay 4 pay 3″.

* Whats Included In Gold Coast Accommodation?

Holiday apartments and resorts are usually described as “fully self contained” which means that guests need only bring their personal effects, clothing and foodstuffs. Everything else necessary for the vacation is included. The following inclusions are typical although some variations may occur between different properties.

- Electric stove (range), oven, refrigerator and microwave

- All kitchen cookware, cutlery, crockery and glassware

- Tea and coffee making facilities

- Bedroom, bathroom and kitchen linen

- Laundry washer and dryer

- Clothes iron and ironing board

- Clothes hangers

- Brooms, dust pan and cleaning utensils

- Colour TV and remote control

- Radio

The majority of properties now provide air-conditioning. Some have it throughout the apartment while others provide it only to the lounge/dining area. There are still Gold Coast properties that have no air conditioning at all.

If air conditioning is essential for your comfort always read the published features carefully and if still uncertain, ask questions at the time of making your enquiry.

The most uncomfortable part of the year on the Gold Coast occurs from mid January to early March when humidity is at its peak but fresh sea breezes, sliding patio doors and screened windows are usually all that is required to keep room temperatures at a comfortable level.

Nearly all properties now offer cable or satellite TV services. Most apartments will provide a hairdryer. If not included in the apartment, one will be available from the reception desk. Most apartments now include DVD players and the hire of movies from the front desk.

An increasing number of properties are providing internet connections so that guests can stay in touch with their email and internet businesses. Some provide connectivity in the guest apartment and others provide an internet kiosk facility.

Apartments are usually serviced on a 7 or 10 day rotation with more frequent servicing available by negotiation with management for an extra cost.

All accommodation properties have a front office reception desks that can arrange bookings for local tours, entertainment, car hire and airport transfers. This is a always a complementary service which means the property will receive a commission for their trouble.

* Airport Transfers

Guests requiring airport transfers to and from the Gold Coast airport at Coolangatta can either use a taxi cab, limousine or mini bus shuttle service. Maxi taxis are available for larger families/small groups but need to be booked in advance. Very few accommodation properties operate their own airport shuttle services. Always check with the accommodation provider at time of booking for their recommendations on the options available and likely costs.

Visitors arriving into Brisbane can board the Airtrain service in front of both the domestic and international airport terminals and be on the Gold Coast 1hr 15 min later. Taxi cabs can take you to your accommodation from the Gold Coast rail station.

Last Minute Travel Easily Planned

Life happens in the moment and so can travel. Last minute travel is a reality of the modern travel age -once held standards of planning certain amounts of time in advance have gone out the window. Whether you need to meet with your operations team in Paris or attend a matinee in London with your mom, there are several steps you can take to ensure that your last minute travel is easily planned.

First, you can prepare ahead of time, even for last minute travel. Although the timing of your travel may come as a surprise, the travel itself does not have to be. If you fly certain routes frequently, become familiar with which airlines serve those routes and what the frequencies of their flights are. Another way of preparing ahead of time is to have any documentation and information necessary to both book and embark on your travel swiftly and easily.

Second, you can more easily deal with the woes of last minute travel by remaining as flexible as possible when making your plans. You may need to make yourself available and open to the idea of alternative modes or routes of travel to ensure that you get to where you need to be, when you need to be there. If you have easy access to train routes, they may be very viable alternatives to plane routes that may fill up faster. If you do not set your mind on achieving a direct flight, you will discover that connecting flights may not add very much travel time to your itinerary, but could save you money. You can also remain flexible by shopping around loyalty to one carrier may help you to gain points or miles, but may rob extra cash from your pocketbook at the same time.

Next, make your travel planning easier by booking as much as you can at one time. Many websites offer the option of booking airline, hotel and car reservations in one itinerary, showing you many options to evaluate at the same time. These are most commonly available through widely-used discount travel websites, but are also available through many airline websites as well. Most major airlines have travel components to their websites that allow all-in-one booking in a flash.

Finally, do the obvious and look for packages. Again offered more commonly by widely-used discount travel websites, these packages are also often offered by major airlines. Last minute travel packages are often offered because airlines, hotels and car rental agencies would rather arrange for their excess inventory to be utilized at discounted rates to generate some revenue rather than not utilized at all.

So the next time you want to ensure that your travel is easily planned, remember the four easy steps of gathering knowledge ahead of time, remaining flexible, using all-in-one sites, and utilizing last minute packages. The days of ensuring that all travel is planned weeks and months in advance to find the best rates and to ensure you plans are actually feasible are gone. Travel has not only become easier to facilitate, but also much more common to participate in. Pack your bags, and enjoy!

What are the best places online to get a last-minute deal on a flight, or package deal?

I may have just a week from booking time to flight. Thanks, and have a great day! ;-)

Try kayak.com. It will search every airline and airline ticket website at once and display them from cheapest to most expensive. It also checks the surrounding airports. It is different from travelocity and lowestfare.com because kayak.com will show Southwest, Northwest, other web sites. It is awesome.

Travel Agent Reveals How To Get Dirt Cheap Airfare Tickets!

need help finding airfair prices?

I was just wondering if there are certain places where you can look up the prices and compare them to other ones on air line tickets. im wanting to take a trip the week before christmas and i figure if i book the flight now it would be cheaper some what. right?
thanks to all in advance

there are many places to get good cheap tickets but there are tricks to it. any website you use will give different prices for different days. for example i am going to morocco december 3rd. my origional plan was to go dec 1st through jan 1st. i typed in those dates and got a ticket price of over 800 bucks per person. i kept changing the days very random and found choosing a different day gives a different price. i chose december 3 to jan 7 and it was so much cheaper. i ended up getting 2 adult tickets and 2 infant tickets to morocco for only 1800 bucks. you just have to know the tricks
