From Wetlands To Canals And Dams: Amsterdam Is Alive

There are not many cities that have experienced such social and political extremes in recent history as Amsterdam. In the 20th century alone, Amsterdam faced the atrocities of war for the first time in 400 years, became the radical center of 1960s social movements and witnessed a complete about-face in its core economy. Amsterdam’s progressive, multicultural, conscientious and contentious attitude wipes out images of a more docile past and ranks this capital city among the top 5 for European travel destinations.

Precariously positioned on the banks of both the IJ Bay and the Amstel River headwaters, Amsterdam made an early mark on the world with its dominant seafaring fleet and colonial aspirations in the 17th and 18th centuries. Amsterdam’s economy turned inward once England emerged as the seafaring superpower. Consequently, most of the enchantingly crooked mansions and townhouses alone the canals are now inhabited by eclectic stores, businesses and engaging galleries and the majority of Amsterdammers live outside of the canal belt.

Museums, Music and a Barrage of Culture

To gain a better understanding of how such a metropolitan city emerged from bogs, swamps and floodplains, visit the Amsterdams Historisch Museum. Extensive documentation covering centuries of growth spans the walls of the exhibits and a detailed segment is dedicated to modern day issues, conflicts and controversies surrounding Amsterdam’s path to becoming a free and tolerant society. Then, explore Amsterdam’s historic relationship with water aboard the Nederlands Scheepvaart Museum, a dry-docked ship from the East India Company. For a more refined jaunt into the past, a trip to the colossal Rijksmuseum will indulge the senses with fine art from Dutch masters throughout history.

As evening approaches, leave your museum voice behind and dive dancing and drinking into Amsterdam’s edgy and rowdy nightlife. The pubs and coffee shops that line the canals are a vibrant mix of locals and visitors, and the perfect place to begin your evening. Enjoy an extensive array of domestic ale or have a taste of the unique Dutch gin. Musically, Amsterdam has something for everyone. Visit Mulligans Pub for authentic Irish entertainment, kick back to some jazz in Dylan’s stylish lobby bar or go electro at the famed mega-club, Ministry.

For a moment of contemplation or a summer picnic, Amsterdam offers some of the best urban park spaces among European cities. Bikes are available for rental to take in the scenery at a faster pace, just beware of the tram tracks that crisscross most roadways and footpaths.

Of European cities, Amsterdam is most likely to surprise, excite and intrigue its visitors in a most unexpected fashion. Travel to Amsterdam to enjoy the perfect balance of open spaces, a lively urban pulse and a gracefully multiethnic ambiance.

Magic Mountain Discount Tickets – Cheap Tickets for Every Six Flags Park

Is there a cheap way to do Disney World?

I’m looking for any special deals. We are planning on going in February, but I didn’t know if there are any deals, coupons, or discounts that anyone knows about. We want to stay in the park hotels, too. We are also going to need airfare.

An excellent site to help you save money going to Disney World is MouseSavers.com. They cover all aspects of going to Disney World: transportation, tickets, resorts, etc.

The best way to save money is to go in an off-season, but for February, it depends on when you go. Up until February 13 is value season, the least-expensive time to go as far as resort prices are concerned (and crowd levels are relatively low). But from February 14 on, you’re suddenly in peak season, so prices and crowds go up significantly.

It is advisable to stay on-site, and the least expensive way to do that is by staying at one of Disney’s value resorts. If you have an AAA membership, you can save up to 20% at a value resort. Staying on-site comes with all sorts of perks: Magical Express (free transportation to and from the airport), Extra Magic Hours (the parks open early or stay open late for on-site guests only), eligibility for the Disney Dining Plan, and free transportation via Disney’s buses, Monorail system, and ferry boats.

Some people here recommend booking directly through Disney. I would recommend instead finding a Disney-centric travel agency to help you with your plans. A good travel agency will keep an eye out for discounts and automatically apply them for you. Travel agents cost you absolutely nothing. Several good Disney-centric travel agencies include Dreams Unlimited Travel and Small World Vacations.

To get a great deal on tickets, sign up for the MouseSavers newsletter. It gets sent on the 15th of every month, and it contains a link for discounted tickets.

I mentioned the Disney Dining Plan earlier. If you will eat one quick-service meal and one table-service meal per day, the Disney Dining Plan is likely to save you money. For more information on the plan, see the link below.

Tips to Get Cheap Low Airfare to Europe

Traveling to Europe seems to be a vacation that everyone wants to do at one time in their life. It is a great place for just about any type of trip including your honeymoon, spring break, or just to visit to experience the history and cultures of the different countries. For many people though taking a European vacation is dependent on one thing; money. And once you’ve saved enough to make your dream vacation come true the last thing you want to do is spend too much on your airline tickets. Fortunately you can get cheap low airfare to Europe if you know where to look.

The first thing you need to do to take advantage of low airfares to Europe is to be flexible. Airlines generally offer cheaper fares if you choose to travel in the middle of the week and stay over a weekend. Most ticket discounts are offered on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday and if you return on those same days you can also see more savings.

Another tip is to travel off-season when the airlines are offering bigger price reductions to fill empty seats. Off-season can vary depending on where you wish to travel but it is a good time to save some money on travel costs.

The internet can also be a good place to find cheap airline tickets to Europe. There are thousands of travel sites out there but if you narrow your search to sites that specialize in European travel or even to particular countries you stand a good chance of finding discount airfares. Many of these region or country specific sites have the low down on all sorts of travel discounts to that particular destination you are interested in.

You can also contact the airlines directly and simply ask what sort of European travel deals they are currently offering. The best time to call is just after midnight because this is when their database of ticket prices are updated and the lowest airfares are sold off on a first come first serve basis. It can also be worth contacting those airlines that serve a particular region or country as they will often have lower prices then many of the larger carriers.

These are a few of the many ways to get cheap low airfare to Europe. The internet provides a wealth of information on this subject but it does take some research and digging to find the best deals. But once you learn these secret airfare deals are possible you’ll be able to travel cheaper then the person in the seat next to yours.

Cheap Flights To Paris

Many consider Paris to be the classiest city in the world. It’s one of the oldest cities in Europe, and usually the first destination choice for many Americans and Canadians traveling to Europe. If you want to spend a few nights in this sophisticated and classy city, you need to look for affordable airfares. Finding cheap flights to Paris is harder than finding a needle in the haystack, but it’s not impossible.

Book a flight to the largest city in France and you’ll be on your way to some of the world’s most famous art, architecture, food, shops, and more! You can shop all you want, visit the Eiffel Tower, visit the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa.

Traveling to Paris does not have to cost an arm and a leg. Cheap flights to Paris are easily accessible and make the most sense, and as an added bonus – saving money on the flight can easily translate into an extra excursion or two while in Paris. Finding affordable flights to Paris is really a matter of doing a little research and comparison shopping.

But, if you are thinking of utilizing your inbound flight to Paris to experience more of Europe, there is no better place to fly into. Head out to Switzerland by train, or take the train and ferry over to England. But wherever you go, you had better have plenty of time available because there is simply so much to see in Europe that no short period of time will leave you satisfied.

Now is really a good time to take advantage of cheap flights to Paris because they are available from cities worldwide, and most American airports offer great fares throughout the year. See Paris in the spring, or experience a French holiday season – either way, it will be a trip to remember.

How to find cheap flights for your destinations, here are some tips for you:

Take an hour or two and try combinations of dates into different cities (Amsterdam, London, Madrid, Paris, Frankfurt and Milan are good hubs) at one or more of the online booking engines mentioned above. Sometimes, just leaving a day later of flying into different city can make a difference of GBP 50-60. in this sense, a little flexibility can translate into substantial savings.

Often, the cheapest flight tickets are sold far in advance. Call a trusted travel agent and ask him/her to book the cheapest fully refundable flight ticket available. Then keep looking. If you find something cheaper, simply cancel the first ticket

Sometimes you can find good deals if you’re willing to fly in the middle of the week. You may even find it cheaper to fly to Amsterdam or London first and then traveling to Paris via train. You can travel to France from England via Eurostar through the Channel Tunnel. Also, when flying from North America, keep in mind that many East coast cities offer cheap flights to Paris—not just NYC or Boston. If you need to fly from the West coast, pick your East coast-to-Paris departure city carefully. Get a variety of quotes from different cities to find the cheapest.

Airfare Denver To San Diego

airfare denver to san diego

How do I find a good hotel/airfare combination?

My friend and I would like to plan a trip to San Diego that includes airfare and hotel. I live in Denver, she lives in NY. How can I find good deals on airfare and hotel combos? How can we book together if we both live in different states?

Thanks!

It is a very good question. I think at this situation you can’t take a combo offer. You will have to book separately. For example if you book Kings Inn hotel in San diego the cost for two persons from 16 March to18 March comes out approximately 165 USD. + 250 USD Flight (Return Fare)

United
Flight 59 / 573 6:15am
Denver, CO (DEN) 10:17am
San Diego, CA (SAN) 5hrs 2min – 1 Stop

Change planes in San Francisco, CA (SFO)
$250 per person or
$330 per person This Flight + 2 Nights Hotel (Return Fare)

for your friend she will have to book separately. You can check the combo offer of flights and hotel in the URL given below:

Bang For The Buck: Holidays For The Family

With summer ending and fall approaching it’s a good time to plan a holiday trip for the family. Oftentimes, family-oriented travel destinations create bargain package vacations including airfare and hotel. Many packages are available at all the top destinations that won’t break the budget.

If considering a trip to California’s Disneyland, consider staying at a non-Disney hotel to save some dollars and get more “bang for your buck.” The Sheraton Anaheim Hotel, located across the street from Disneyland, has a free shuttle to and from the park. Save more when setting up your vacation package by purchasing your park tickets to Disneyland, and tickets to other area attractions like Universal Studios, Knott’s Berry Farm and the Queen Mary that you may wish to visit. The meticulous vacation planner can have the whole trip worked out without getting up from the computer.

Disneyworld in Florida also has family vacation packages. The Pop Century Resort at Disneyworld is a sprawling complex of 5,760 rooms with different areas themed on the pop culture of a featured decade from the 1950s through the 1990s and it is available at a discount. Once again, save more by purchasing your park tickets ahead of time. All the big ones are located nearby including Disneyworld and Animal Kingdom.

Another popular family vacation destination is Las Vegas. Las Vegas has spent two decades revamping itself from the “city of sin” into an ideal family resort destination. The Desert Rose Resort is a nice 3-star hotel located in the famous “strip” area – available at a discount. The traveling family can reserve two-bedroom suites here for the price of a standard room at some of the “big name” hotels. Attractions within walking distance of the Desert Rose include the Elvis-a-Rama Museum, the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace, the dancing fountains at Bellagio, and the Stratosphere Hotel Tower with the roller coaster located at the top – 1200 feet above the strip.

Back to the West Coast again to San Diego are two of the world’s greatest attractions for the family animal lovers: Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. Sea World is opened extended hours during the December holidays and so is the San Diego Zoo, the world’s largest zoo. The Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina, set on San Diego Bay, is a beautiful, 4-star hotel available at a discount in the area. The hotel offers a shuttle service to both Sea World and the San Diego Zoo.

Finally, another holiday vacation idea for the family at a budget is the skiing trip. Colorado is full of resorts available at a family discount. Winter Park is the closest ski resort to Denver International Airport and is a picture-perfect winter wonderland. Never been skiing before? Schedule lessons – the professional ski instructors have classes for everyone from the never-put-skis-on novice to advanced classes for those seeking to freestyle. Classes are also available for children as young as three years old. The Super 8 is a discount hotel available in Winter Park. Though only rated 2-stars it is a comfortable hotel and visitors spend most of their time on the mountain anyway. Save extra money by purchasing your lift tickets online.

Many options are available to the travelling family during holiday time. Families can visit Disney parks on the East and West coasts and a family-themed Las Vegas. Taking a ski trip to the mountains of Colorado is an excellent idea also.

For Lauderdale Ghost Tours — Hunt The Haunted Tonight!

Christian Rieger asked:

Hunt ghosts with the Ghosts, Mysteries & Legends tour of Old Fort Lauderdale, www.fortlauderdaleghosttours.com, Fort Lauderdale’s premier ghost tour. Ghost Guides introduce visitors and locals to Fort Lauderdale’s “other night life” as they walk along the banks of the New River in the city’s historic district.

The ghost tour takes guests to the city’s most haunted places right in the heart of downtown, where the Tequesta Indians lived when the Spanish Conquistadors arrived and where the city as we know it today began.

The tour’s chief ghost guide, Christian Rieger, says, “We concentrate our tour in the area where Fort Lauderdale started as a modern city – where the Flagler railroad came through in 1896.

“The freeze of 1895 that killed the citrus trees through central Florida, caused Henry Flagler to extend his Florida Eastcoast Railroad from Palm Beach to what is today Miami.

The city’s first hotel, built because the railroad’s coming through, was built next to the tracks at the river. Historians say that it is this area, where we have our ghost hunting, that the city, as we know it today, began.”

Ghost tour guides, wearing a cape, top hat and carrying a lantern, tell stories of the fabled New River, trading posts and 100 year-old mansions. Is the Ghost Train that speeds silently over the tracks the train that caused the death 500 people in the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935? Some locals who claim to have seen it think so.

Visitors on the tour will discover the mystery of the woman in the white wedding dress and why she stands alone on the balcony of the city’s oldest standing hotel building. Guides also tell tales of Seminole Indians that still haunt the river, the ghosts of early settlers, and the haunts of a popular restaurant.

“It is great family entertainment,” says Rieger, “something for the family to do after dinner besides watch television in the hotel room. It also works great for local families, because ghost tours are a clever way of introducing local history to children – a way of making history interesting and easy to listen to.”

“And bring your digital camera. We have had many guests who have photographed various images in the spirit world.”

Tips for Searching Cheap flights

Now days, travel has become expensive, and costs are rising rapidly. But it doesn’t mean that you won’t find cheap deals for your dream vacation. This article provides you some necessary information and tips to find best deal for you.

Finding cheap fares consists of three steps.

 1. Know about the deals from the airlines
 2. Search the internet for best deals
 3. Remember about the special days.

1. Know about the deals from the airlines

If you have decided to travel; the first and foremost thing to do is find out the major airlines which ply between your origins to destination airports. This you can find out from any website when you search forCheap Flight Tickets .Once you know about these airlines, the next thing to do is to go to their websites and see if they have got some kind of special offers going on. You should do this for all the major airlines you have come across; you can also compare their fairs. You will instantly know which airline is cheaper.

2. Search the internet for best deals

Since you have already visited the websites of the airlines, you know which airlines are cheaper. But on the internet there are may travel agencies and consolidators who have special deals with the airlines because they buy tickets in bulk, so some travel agencies and consolidators get hefty discounts from the airlines which they pass on to the customer. So it may be that you may find same ticket costlier on the airlines website and cheaper on the consolidator’s website. So it makes sense to search for Cheap Flight Tickets on consolidators or travel agents website as you had done with airlines website and compare the results of all searches. This should give you better idea of the fairs available.

 1. Remember about the special days.

For travel there are peek seasons and lien seasons, there are busy days and there are not so busy days, the busy days or the peak season are more in demand then the other days. The more the demand the higher the price of the ticket. So you should avoid peak seasons like Christmas or New Years Eve or any other festival season. Sundays and Mondays tent to be very busy days for travel, most tend to travel on these days. The tickets bought for this day tend to be costlier.

It is always a good idea to search flights on multiple travel portals to compare fairs.
