Continental Considering Merger with United
Many travelers are concerned whether cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages may be in short supply as a result of a proposed merger between United and Continental Airlines. Apparently their negotiations are heating up, with Continental Airlines directors meeting Wednesday, 4/28, to discuss a possible combination with United.
Such a merger would create the world’s largest airline based on passenger traffic. Executives from both carriers have been meeting for over a week concerning a possible merger.
At present, talks appear to be stalled over the value that should be placed on each company’s shares in the event of a stock swap deal. The fact that Continental management briefed its board on Wednesday suggests that negotiations remain active. One of the executives close to the talks said the airlines may have a deal to announce by the beginning of next week.
Travel experts believe that these two airlines complement each other particularly well. United’s hubs in Chicago and San Francisco would work well with Continental’s hubs in the New York City and Houston. Overseas, United has well developed routes in Asia, whereas Continental has a strong network in Europe and Latin America.
Currently United is America’s third biggest carrier, behind Delta Air Lines who is number one and American Airlines. Continental is the country’s fourth largest carrier.
Advocates of airline consolidation argue that bigger U.S. airlines will be more efficient, more competitive with large foreign carriers, and help reduce excess seat capacity.
Consumer advocates counter that typically when airlines merge customers often lose because ultimately there tend to be fewer flights and higher prices.

Travel To Australia: A Country-Continent Continuum
Situated between the Indian and South Pacific Oceans in a geographically misunderstood region of the world called Oceania, Australia is a continent nearly twice the size of Europe and also an independent nation made up of six states and two territories. The literal continental size of the country makes for travel that is diverse and exhilarating without the hassle of ever crossing a single border!
Australia has been inhabited for an estimated 45,000 years with the first recorded European encounter with the landmass not until 1606. In 1770, the English navigator James Cook claimed Australia for Britain, but it was not until the gold rush of the 1800s that Aboriginal tribes were really harmed by Europeans who were drawn into the depths of the continent’s formidable Great Dividing Range where natives had since thrived undisturbed. Today there are many trading posts, such as Alice Springs, where Aborigines sell traditional artwork and musical instruments such as the popular didgeridoo.
Wine, Waves, and Whimsical Wilderness
Most travelers anticipate a visit to the Sydney Opera House, a wild ride through the outback and then a dive at the Great Barrier Reef, and most visitors experience an abrupt awakening to the sheer depth of Australia’s wonderful attributes and activities as well as the great distances that would make such a trip lengthy at best. Southwestern Australia is a fantastic wine-producing region, with harvests including Australia’s own Shiraz. Visit the popular Margaret River area for delicious reds or take a drive along the nearby coast and surf some of the best waves in the morning while making a leisurely afternoon of wine tasting in the quaint coastal towns along the way. On the path of indulgence, make sure to enjoy some truly authentic Aussie cuisine like slow-roasted kangaroo or emu, and don’t shy away from the Moreton Bay bug, which is actually an exceptional species of slipper lobster native to Australian waters.
Witness firsthand the versatility of the Aussie landscape by venturing north to the coastal Daintree Rainforest in the wet tropical region near the festive city of Cairns and the northern tip of the Great Barrier Reef. Some of the world’s oldest rainforest stands in Australia’s tropical north while ski resorts garnish the eastern Snowy Mountains outside of cosmopolitan Sydney and the semi-arid Flinders Ranges in the south represent the last of the quintessential Australian outback, complete with crocodiles and wallabies. Tasmania, Australia’s giant southern island, is often considered a miniature Australia with all of the spectacular sights in a fraction of the size. Most notable is the intense backdrop marked with jutting peaks, plunging crevasses and glacial lakes of Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park.
Whether you travel to Australia for the rugged adventure of the outback or the richly multicultural and ultra-hip global scenes of Melbourne and Sydney, the deluge of opportunities available upon arrival are sure to turn your initial itinerary on its head. Not to mention, Australia is an excellent jumping point from which to discover the many tropical island-nations of Southeast Asia to the north.

‘Eat Pray Love’: A spiritual quest and a triumph of capitalism
It’s not just a book-turned-movie. It’s a lifestyle-turned-consumer-phenomenon-turned-quasi-religion. I was hoping to avoid writing about “Eat Pray Love.” The movie’s been out for two weeks, and the book has been out for four years, 184 weeks of which it’s been on the New York Times bestseller list. Not that you need to be told, but “Eat Pray Love” (often abbreviated EPL) chronicles writer …

QANTAS CHEAP AIRFARES INTERNATIONAL
low cost international airfare?
I am a soldier stationed in Germany looking for a cheap place to find international airline tickets. I obviously dont make that much money, so i am trying to save as much as i can. Ive checked out basically every airline site, but they are all pretty much the same. The majority of the ticket cost is for the extra taxes, any ideas how to lower those too. Thanks for any help!
Im flying from Frankfurt to Charlotte, NC or Charleston,SC, whichever is cheaper, from 5JUN-23JUN.
USAir has it for only $748 r/t total right now. I believe they also do 5% discount, on the fare before taxes, for active duty military. This is FRA-CLT nonstop on the 5th, and connecting from CLT via PHL to FRA on return. Best and cheapest to book direct from http://www.usair.com
I checked everywhere for you, and apart from Ebookers having it for $1 cheaper (with no military discount, by the way, and with an extra layer of hassles if you need service on the ticket), getting this price direct from USAir is the best option I see.

Discounted Business Class Ticket – Cheap Business Flight Tips
A discounted business class ticket is not hard to come across, but there are so many individuals who travel not knowing or caring how to find them. Did you know that 30% of all travelers are business travelers?
What if you found a discount on every business flight, this would save you and your business tons of money in the long run. Let’s go over a couple different strategies towards finding a good deal on your business trips.
The first strategy is to know when to book your flights. Like a regular passenger, there should be specific times when you should book your flight. A grave secret is that you should book your flights online and on a tuesday afternoon, as they update the flights on this day.
Also, the best time of year to book business flights are the summer and major holidays. No one wants to fly for business when they should be relaxing. There may be a good discounted business class ticket waiting for you on the other side.
Be aware of where you purchase your flight from. When calling a direct airline, they want to get the most money out of you possible. They will literally lie to you and tell you that a high priced ticket is the best price around.
They want more money and know that if the flight is business oriented, they can get that money they want. The average business flyer does not know the technical side around these airline companies. Yes they all want returning customers, but if you do not know the difference between a good deal and a terrible one then there is a problem.
Cheapest Business class tickets of Singapore airlines from Los Angeles to Taipei? A380 or 777-300ER?
Hi! All the smart people here! Do you know Which tour agency or where can I buy the cheapest Business-class tickets of Singapore airlines from Los Angeles to Taipei?
Because the price of Singapore airlines website is opened and no discount. But maybe you know where can I buy a discount ticket? Or do you know if I can buy the miles to upgrade?(from Econ to Bus Class)
Thank you so much here!^^
Thanks to Gerald J! Because I always took China airlines and Eva airlines, thats why I wanna try Singapore airlines. But you are right! I just found out they don’t have A380 at LA! ^^ Thanks again!
Singapore doesn’t fly the A380 from LA to Taipei and I don’t believe Singapore flies to Taipei without having to go all the way to Singapore first, which is about an extra 8-10 hrs out of the way. You can usually buy miles as long as you’re a member of Singapore’s Kris Flyer program or a Star Alliance partner airline, but I think you’ll find that to be quite expensive if you don’t already have a lot of miles in your account. You could try finding a direct Singapore Airline’s flight (777, Airbus or 747) to Hong Kong or Japan and take another airline to Taipei, or even though their business class is not as nice as Singapore Airline’s, save a lot of money and time by taking China Airlines or EVA directly to Taipei from LA, good luck.
