Making Air Travel A Breeze: Part 1 – Finding The Right Deal

You have probably seen plenty of commercials for websites and travel services promising the lowest prices on airfare. While many of these advertised services can be helpful, many only scratch the surface. The key to finding the best air travel deals and packages is always research. This article will outline the best sources for discount airfare based on different types of travel agendas. You might be surprised to learn about all of the services you’ve missed – and the fact that travel agents can still come in handy! After the discussion of sources for discount airfare, you will also find some helpful tips for securing the best tickets, regardless of your travel plans.

When starting your search for airfare it certainly never hurts to look at sites like Expedia.com and Travelocity.com, but those who understand the ins and outs of discount air travel never stop here. If you have a set date and location, professionals recommend using aggregator websites. These web services search hundreds of online travel sites for the best deals on airfare, often picking up deals that the popular travel sites miss. These sites include:

• Mobissimo.com
• Kayak.com
• Sidestep.com
• Farechase.com

If you know where and when you are flying but need to find tickets for the next two weeks, try site59.com. This website offers travel packages on short notice and oftentimes you can find hotel and airfare package deals that beat the price of traditional plane tickets alone.

If your travel dates are flexible within a 3-day range, use Kayak.com’s unique search feature. However, if your dates are flexible within a month range, use Farecast.com, Farecompare.com and Travelocity.com. All of these sites feature search engines that can generate the best possible rates over a 30-day period.

If you are truly a flexible traveler and are open to multiple locations, several sites offer rate searches based on your point of origin. For instance, if you want to go to Mexico and don’t mind if you end up in Puerto Vallarta or Cancun, these searches can save you plenty of money. In addition to the aforementioned Mobissimo.com and Farecast.com, other services that allow multiple location comparison searches include Farewatch.com and AirfareWatchdog.com.

Another useful internet tool for finding affordable airfare is the price history search offered by Farecompare.com, Farecast.com and Kayak.com. With this function, you will be able to compare current rates with previous deals to help you determine when to pull the trigger on a price.

Another great option is a site like Travelzoo.com that gathers all of the best advertised deals. While you can’t book your airfare directly through such websites, these services work directly with airlines and travel providers to publish the best prices on a daily basis.

While travel agents may seem like a thing of the past, they still possess a number of distinct advantages. Unlike websites, a call to travel agent connects you to someone who knows the airline system and can find special deals and flights that other services miss. For instance, travel agents often work with consolidators – companies that sell heavily discounted airfare. As consolidators don’t sell to the public, many incredible deals are only available to travel agents. Furthermore, if you have specific needs – such as a complicated itinerary, special requests for accommodations or simply aren’t comfortable making preparations online – a travel agent can be indispensable.

Now that you know where to look for airfare deals, here are a few more tips to ensure that you always get the best price:

• Start looking for deals on airfare as soon as you start planning your vacation, because more time to search means a better chance of finding the best price.

• If you have searched rates for awhile and a good price becomes available, reserve your seats immediately.

• If you are traveling within the U.S., check the websites for JetBlue and Southwest Airlines. These low-cost carriers usually don’t show up in the travel search engines.

• Many travel professional now recommend buying tickets directly through airline websites, rather than sites like Orbitz.com and Expedia.com. Most airlines now guarantee the lowest rates on their own sites and you will be able to avoid the service charges of the travel sites. Additionally, if anything goes wrong on your vacation, your airline will be more willing to work with you if your ticket was purchased directly.

Airfare Questions:

Discount airfares??

I’ve already looked into Orbitz, CheapTickest, Travelzoo and Southwest…no luck! too expensive. I’m planning to travel on the lastweek of September…please let me know if theres another way to get air fares on a cheaper price

http://www.utopia.worldventures.com

This site searches all the airline companies websites along with all the resellers websites (Travelocity,Orbitz, etc…)

Only need to type in the dates and destination once to get their prices.

You will not book from this site. It will link you directly to the airline website so you are booking withthe airline not World Ventures. Read how it works on the bottom of the link

Airfare Europe Discount

Companion Flies FREE to Europe On Air-Inclusive Vacations

How to get a cheap ticket and good deal to go to Europe?

I am planning to go to Belgium two weeks before the month of April ends but I still could not find the cheap airfare and the right one. I am still a student, usually there are discounts for students but I just dont know where to find it. I’ve been searching and still I could not find it. Can somebody help me? thanks!

Check out the airline company “Flyme.” They offer incredibly cheap rates for Europe, and just filed bankruptcy on Friday. I bet they would sell you a ticket for very cheap…

Cheap Airfare Europe

Try to find the high, low and shoulder travel seasons. If it’s possible, accommodate your travel schedule to the low season because this option is usually the cheapest. When you find a good airfare deal that you feel that it’s a really good deal, you have to be prepared to purchase the deal immediately. Do not even try to find a better deal as many great offers disappear as fast as they appear.

Considering some alternatives that are geographical, like some close by airports may be a money saver. Look for prices on the best flight day, which is mid week, like Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. These are the best days to book a flight. There’s a term call code sharing that you have to be aware of. It is when an airline shares path and plane with a foreign airline of theirs. This is important because the airfares may vary for the same flight for some code sharers.

If you search in the right places repeatedly with determination, there are cheap air tickets for last minute travel deals. Some airlines often give discounted rates varying from few days to half and hour before departure. Try not to purchase one way tickets, get round trip tickets instead as they are often the cheapest deals around. If you are a student, you will probably find a good deal easily as students often get heavy discounts for their air tickets. It will also help if you don’t plan your trip during major holidays. There are always cheaper travel deals if you plan carefully and it will save you a lot of money as well. It is also more comfortable to be in a plane that is not overcrowded.

Buy your air tickets from wholesalers. These wholesalers buy in quantities and they usually have a very good discount. If you buy from them, they will give you a good rate too!
It is definitely not easy scouting for cheap airfares unless you do your homework thoroughly. It may be a frustrating process when doing the research but believe me, it will be worth your while.

Flights to South Africa – How to Find Cheap Airfares to South Africa From Uk, London, Canada, Usa, Manchester, Ireland, Australia, Via Dubai & Asia

michael r. giles asked:

Being Flexible Can Save You Money on Your Flights

If you are willing to fly to South Africa on a Tuesday or Wednesday you have a better chance of finding cheap flights to Cape Town or cheap flights to Johannesburg. Airlines generally offer the more discounted airfares to South Africa in the middle of the week rather than over weekends. This is simply a matter of supply and demand.  Most people want to fly over weekends or on Friday or Monday.

In Low Season Fly Into Cape Town Then Get A Cheap Local Flight

Most airlines that fly to South Africa have Johannesburg flights, not flights to Cape Town.  Johannesburg is South Africa’s business capital and by far the largest city with the busiest airport.  To keep their airport slots in Cape Town (which is a booming airport in high season) the airlines have to fly to Cape Town in the off season even when traffic is a lot less. Yes, they cut back the number of flights but even then there is sometimes more supply than demand. So compare the airfares for Johannesburg to the airfares to Cape Town – then look at domestic airlines in South Africa to get you cheap airfares between those two cities or to get to Kruger for an African safari. Low season in Cape Town (May to August) is a great time for wildlife safaris in the northern part of South Africa.

Find Discount Plane Tickets To South Africa by Flying Through Another Country

Another effective strategy is to look for flights to South Africa by flying via another city or country. For example look at flights to South Africa via Dubai if you live in the UK or the USA.  If you are looking for cheap flights to Africa from Australia look at traveling via Singapore. If you are looking for cheap tickets to Africa from Ireland look at flying via Amsterdam, Paris or Frankfurt. If you are looking for cheap airplane tickets from London, Manchester or elsewhere in the UK, look not just at flying from London but look at flights from the Netherlands.  The added benefit here is that you get to extend your holiday by flying through another interesting place.

With rising oil prices, prices for flights to South Africa are expected to continue to be high in 2009, 2010 and beyond.  Using these tips will mean you pay as little as possible for your flights to South Africa.

Canada: Travel’s Understated Treasure

The second largest country in the world should by no means stand in the shadow of its more boisterous southern neighbor. Canada’s 10 million square kilometers of land, lakes and life brings its own signature flavor to the North American continent. Travel through Canada is a truly mind-opening experience for even the most seasoned vacationer.

The region has been inhabited since the retreat of the last ice age, creating nearly 10,000 years of aboriginal history. Vikings roamed Canada’s arctic shores long before Europeans began bickering over land rights during the 16th century. The French settlers founded Quebec City in 1608 while British explorers populated the Atlantic seaboard and Hudson Bay. European wars exacerbated Franco-British tensions until the American Revolution sent British refugees north, tipping the balance away from the French. Canada was finally unified under a constitution in 1867, while maintaining ties to the British crown. Since then, a large Quebec sovereignty movement has emerged in the French speaking province and has gained momentum at the federal level.

Canada’s Untainted Urban Gems

Canada’s cities are as diverse as its territory is expansive. French-speaking Montreal is the largest city in Quebec and arguably the liveliest in Canada. After the 1976 Montreal Olympics, the Biodome de Montreal filled in the empty stadium with four actively maintained ecosystems and numerous living exhibits. The collection of species is nothing short of phenomenal. Montreal has a thriving museum culture (buy a 3-museum pass) and an irresistible nightlife, boasting the largest dance floor in the country and a pioneering music scene with an eclecticism not to be found elsewhere. Travel west into Canada’s serene backwoods to discover Vancouver, a metropolitan diamond in the rough of British Columbia’s rugged wilderness. Ski Whistler’s nearby slopes or enjoy a day of sailing, then flex your cosmopolitan muscle in the evening with a stroll through the acclaimed Vancouver Art Gallery and appetizers at Canada Place.

Visit Vancouver for a taste of Canada’s blossoming multiculturalism and international flavor. For a slower and more intimate pace, discover Nova Scotia’s capital of Halifax in the northeast. This revamped harbor town has become Canada’s Hollywood, with a large number of movies and shows being filmed along the charming avenues.

Unlimited Supply of Adventure

Canada’s Northwest and Yukon Territories offer some of the most pristine stretches of natural beauty in North America, along with the best light show around complements of the Aurora Borealis. Kluane National Park protects Yukon’s World Heritage Sites and Canada’s highest peak. In Alberta, Banff and Jasper National Parks provide the most spectacular views from the Canadian Rockies and a visit to Canada’s Glacier National Park, British Columbia, is imperative to witness the retreating ancient glaciers. With 39 National Parks and Reserves, Canada provides an infinite stock of breathtaking encounters.

Due to Canada’s extreme northern latitude, travel is best enjoyed during the summer months of July and August, even if the days are extremely long or endless. Winter sports can be enjoyed in many resorts year-round; however, December and January tend to be unbearably cold and dark, particularly in the northern regions.

Airfare Questions:

In Las Vegas should I stay at Planet Hollywood or the MGM Grand?

I am going to Las Vegas for 4 days & 3 nights over a weekend at the end of September. I have already went previously and stayed at Excalibur but I am now looking to upgraqde for this trip. I am going with 4 buddies and we are all in the age range of 23-25 and we will be looking to gamble, pool, drink, eat, & go out to bars/clubs. For our price range we have pretty much narrowed it down to 2 options: Planet Hollywood & MGM Grand. I know MGM Grand is larger, has a better/longer history, and has a larger pool complex. PH however seems newer & more up to date and has a more central location with their pool smaller overlooking the strip?

Any tips or suggestions one way or the other would be greatly appreciated. For my airfare & hotel the price difference is minimal so please do not take cost into account.

Thank you!

For your age group, I will recommend Planet Hollywood. PH is more taliored to a younger crowd. The rooms at the MGM Grand are nice and also has a nice pool but MGM Grand will cost more considering they charge an extra resort fee that PH does not charge.

My vote goes to Planet Hollywood. Here are discount rates

Denver Airfare Sale

denver airfare sale

Can a lottery-type contest be won, and THEN the value of the prize diminished?

Person I know works in a 50-story bldg in Denver. Ownership holds yearly contest w/various prizes to thank tenants. This yr, prize advertised as cruise to Alaska, inc airfare and hotel, w/value $6,000. My friend won the drawing.

Since then, all downhill. The hired travel agent told my friend that since less than $4K was collected in sold tickets, if wanted to do cruise, no airfare or hotel because not enough $$.

Mtg w/mgmt team that held contest provided position that “a value of $6,000″ does not really mean anything. Said if buy shirt on sale for $10 that normally $50, is $50 value but you don’t get $50 if return???

Atty has said take to Small Claims Court and sue for $6K cash and will absolutely win. Friend doesn’t really want to sue, but at a loss what to do next.

Friend feels cheated and terribly disappointed, as he had already given prize to his parents as a 50th Anniversary once-in-a-lifetime gift. Now might have to renege, as can’t afford on own.

Any thoughts?

And the law on lotteries is generally that they are gambling events and so heavily regulated as to be almost illegal, usually illegal, and if not illegal, very specific rules govern the thing. One of those rules is that the prize offered is the prize offered, and that cannot change. Yes, the person offering the lottery is also gambling. $6,000 is the amount relevant to a small claims court. Thus, your friend could say this is a violation of law and sue for what was promised, or say that $4,000 is still free money and go with that.
Personally, I’d be tempted to go to the owners/contest operators and offer them a deal: give me the cash and I don’t sue (I’ll buy my own vacation and it’ll be better than what you clowns work up.) If you insist on the cruise, then it’ll be ALL the cruise offered. One or the other, not the way you want it to be. And if they don’t accept the offer, then I’d sue, including the fact that I offered a settlement already, which they turned down.

Cheap Flight To the USA

Whether you have a limited budget or simply want to get the best deal on a flight, traveling on cheap airlines can save you a bundle on airfares that you can apply to the rest of your vacation. Over the past few years, cheap airlines selling cheap tickets for cheap flights have proliferated — and that’s to your benefit.

More often than not, there’s negligible difference between a coach seat on a cheap airline and one on the Big Six (American, United, Delta, Northwest, Continental, and US Airways) airlines. In some cases, flying a cheap airline — at least one with leather seats, free personal satellite TV, and other perks — is superior to what huge airline corporations offer. When searching for dirt cheap airfares, check the Web sites of low-priced airlines. Some, like Southwest, only sell tickets on their own site. Others offer the best deals to their own customers. And if you buy directly from a cheap airline site, you’ll avoid paying the small extra transaction fee sites such as Orbitz charge.

Top Cheap Airlines to US Cities

JetBlue. When JetBlue took to the skies in 2000, no one expected the airline, with its cheap fares between New York and Florida, to make much of an impact. After flyers experienced JetBlue’s easy online ticket-buying technology, Airbus A320s, egalitarian single-class system, leather seats, free satellite TV in every seatback, pleasant flight attendants, and cheap ticket prices, they started switching allegiance over to the airline. JetBlue has piled up awards, including Best US Airline, Best Domestic Airline, Best Budget Airline, and Best Value for Cost from a slew of trustworthy sources. With more and more converts, this cheap but hip airline continues to grow. As of March 2006, JetBlue flies to 35 cities, including Las Vegas, West Palm Beach, Nassau in the Bahamas, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Southwest. Deep discounts on advance purchases are typical, which is helpful to those planning a long-distance wedding that requires many guests to come from other parts of the country. When the airline has one of its frequent fare sales, the normally cheap prices drop even more. Southwest flies to 63 cities in 31 states. New Southwest planes offer leather seats. However, seat numbers are not assigned by the airline. At check-in you get an un-numbered boarding pass and are welcome to take any free seat.

Spirit Air. Spirit Air flies to 29 destinations. What’s different about Spirit Air is that it has two in-cabin classes — and it’s very cheap to upgrade to Spirit Plus, which offers leather seats that are somewhat roomier than coach, with more leg room, free drinks, and an odd, salty snack (who voted on feeding passengers beef jerky and cheese sauce?). Still, even cheap skates and couples on a tight budget like to enjoy the luxury of traveling in first class once in a while. Spirit’s inexpensive upgrades ($30-50) are sold online and at the gate when available.

Delta’s Song and United’s Ted are designed as cheap but fun spin-offs of their parent airlines.

AirTran Airways. It flies to 54 destinations and has Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as its hub. Its new Boeing 737-700s feature XM Satellite Radio with more than 100 digital channels.

Frontier Airlines . It has Denver as its hub and flies to 48 destinations in 29 state plus five cities in Mexico. In-cabin satellite TV carries 25 channels.

Cheap flights from Houston to Zurich?

Im primarily looking at a window of June 27-July 8, 2011 and i’m planning on going for 8-11 days. Ive found flights (normally connected in Chicago or Toronto through United/Swiss/Air Canada) for around 1025 but I am on a really tight budget (I am a minor without a job and with parents who, at this point, are not paying for airfare) and I was hoping to find something cheaper. I am also open to travelling August 1, 2011-August 15, 2011 for the same amount of time but I’d rather stick to the original plan. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

The dates you are requesting travel is peak travel season so tickets usually are not cheap during that time. You can talk to a travel agent and see how much they would charge. I would also see how much fares are on Continental. Delta is another suggestion but it seems as though you are sticking to airlines in the Star Alliance.
