Can u redeem miles with less than the travel?

Cheez-it asked:

I was wondering, say if you had 500 mile points and the total miles for the place you’re going to fly to is around 3,000 miles, can you still redeem those 500 miles and get a little bit of a discount?

Discount Travel Airfare to Panama, Central America

Roland Jefferson asked:

Travel to Central America has always been very expensive from the US. However, the trade routes into Panama have consistently provided an opportunity for discount travel airfare to and from Panama. The amount of discount is often a function of the type of cargo and the actual form of air transport you are willing to accept.

Traveling as Cargo

Many of you may be surprised to learn that Panama may have more airfields available for light cargo planes than any single state in America. Practically every cocoa or marijuana field has its own private landing strip providing the capability to load fairly substantial amounts of cargo. In such cases, discount travel airfare from Panama might be necessary for the cargo owner. Thus, if you are not a very qualified liar, you might expect to spend some time in jail in the arrival city in the US. In such cases the discount travel airfare from Panama may in fact be more expensive than a regularly scheduled flight!

Discount travel airfare to Panama is much less adventurous. The simplest thing to look for is a two engine small passenger plane that is making frequent trips to Central America. Contact the pilot directly and negotiate your discount travel airfare to Panama. These guys think they are beneath the radar, and the fact that you know they are going to Panama for a reason that is not very popular with the DEA, can result in a very low discount travel airfare to Panama. However, one must understand that such discount travel may not be to the desired port or city, and further negotiation of the discount travel airfare to Panama is not possible once airborne.

Traveling as cargo in such a manner is not the safest or preferred way for those of us who wish to avail discount travel airfare to Panama.

Traveling Alone

For those traveling alone, here is a note of caution. When entering into the deal for discount travel airfare to or from Panama, please do it with at least one friend. Safety is in numbers and flying as a group in the manner suggested would result in far less trouble for you and your friends. You may even end up in a legitimate location in Panama and spend some quality time together. As with all vacations, time spent in planning your trip carefully usually pays off. Research the carrier, the airfields involved and the class of service provided.

Getting a cheap airfare to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam?

I have traveled to all of those countries listed and I used Kayak.com to help with the cheap fares. The problem is that sometimes the websites can’t book the fares online. I was in Vientiane, Laos in January and to get there, I had to buy individual tickets on United and Thai Airlines. The trip cost 1300 dollars.

Remember too that you may get a cheaper flight, say on Laos Air, but I would rather stick to Thai Airlines as they have a proven track record and they aren’t a third world airline. Flight safety is a concern for me in deciding the airline to choose. Thai Airlines flies to all of those countries from Bangkok.

Luxury Journey To Vietnam

Code: PV – SH 27 – 09
routes:   Ho Chi Minh city – Mekong Delta – Nhatrang – Hoian – Hue - Halong bay - Hanoi
Duration: 09 days
Feature: Our program is ideal for the traveler with limited time who wants to have a panorama of the diversity and the majestic beauty of Vietnam. Vietnam Insight is a colorful mix of cultural impressions and nature. We will visit the capitol Hanoi with its colonial charm, the royal city Hue on the banks of the Perfume river with its palaces and Emperor’s tombs; the ancient Hoi An and the lively Metropole of the South HoChiMinh City or better known as Saigon. We come to see natural wonders like the Bay of Halong with its more than 3000 islands and the tropical Mekong Delta with its lush fruit gardens.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Upon arrival in Saigon, the bustling heart of Vietnam, you will be transferred to your hotel for a two-night stay. Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam’s commercial capital and a city of extraordinary energy. This afternoon enjoy some brief touring, including the Ben Thanh Market, Cholon (Chinatown) and the ornate Thien Hau Pagoda, and the unique shops along Donh Khoi Street (formerly Rue Catinat). Tonight is free at your leisure, Stay overnight in Saigon.

Day 2: Depart this morning by road for the province of Tay Ninh and visit the ornate Cao Dai Temple (The Holy See). The Cao Dai religion attempts to fuse together many of the existing faiths in Vietnam. Observe the mid-day religious ceremony and then, after lunch at a local restaurant, travel to the hills around Cu Chi in an area known as the “Iron Triangle.” Explore the network of secret tunnels that were used during the Vietnam War — the tunnels and their cramped quarters lend insight into the determination and tenacity of the Vietnamese fighters. Return to Saigon later this afternoon.

Day 3: Today you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Danang; upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel. After settling in, you will visit the Museum of Cham Sculpture and the Marble Mountains. The Cham people occupied this area of Vietnam from the 4th to the 16th centuries and in the museum you will find the best examples of Cham sculpture anywhere in the world. The Marble Mountains are a series of large marble outcrops that have acquired mythical significance over the centuries. The caves of the Marble Mountains have a number of sacred Buddhist shrines as well as a former Communist guerrilla hospital from the Vietnam War. The balance of the day is at leisure to enjoy your resort.

Day 4: This morning tour Hoi An with your guide and driver. Hoi An was Vietnam’s most active trading center over many centuries and has been largely preserved. The architecture of the city reflects the influence of Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, French and British traders. Enjoy a walking tour of this enchanting town visiting an old merchant house, the Hoi An Museum, a Chinese Assembly Hall and the Japanese Covered Bridge. Also explore its many craft and silk shops and the colorful fish and produce markets. Return to the resort later this afternoon for some time at leisure.

Day 5: Depart this morning for the 2.5 hour drive to Hue, a beautiful and welcoming city. This spectacular journey takes you over the scenic Hai Van Pass (Pass of the Ocean Clouds), where you will enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline. As Vietnam’s capital throughout the Nguyen Dynasty, as a center of Vietnamese Buddhism and scholarship, and finally as the setting for some of the Vietnam War’s most bloody fighting, Hue provides a unique window into Vietnam and its complex past. After settling into your hotel, tour the Citadel and visit Thien Mu Pagoda, Hue’s oldest pagoda. Also visit the tomb of Tu Duc, set among lotus ponds, fragrant pine and frangipani trees. Tu Duc was one of the more eccentric Nguyen emperors, with a penchant for poetry and banquets. Take a short cruise along the Perfume River late afternoon and enjoy the setting sun. Tonight is at leisure. You may wish to sample some of Hue’s famous vegetarian cuisine.

Day 6: After a morning at leisure in Hue, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Hanoi. Start your explorations of this city with some afternoon touring, which will include a visit to the Old Quarter, 36 ancient streets where peddlers continue to trade as they have done for centuries. End the day with an evening performance of Water Puppet Theater. Water puppets are a folk art tradition unique to northern Vietnam. The often-comic story is told by puppeteers who manipulate the brightly painted wooden puppets through the water while remaining unseen. The plays are based on historical and religious themes; often, famous battles of Vietnamese history are re-told, with fireworks and opera singing creating a truly wondrous spectacle.

Day 7: Today’s full day of private touring takes in the highlights of Hanoi. Begin with a tour of the mausoleum that holds the interred body of the late President Ho Chi Minh. Also visit his traditional teakwood house, the simple dwelling he preferred to the material grandeur of a palace. Visit the One-Pillar Pagoda, originally built in the 11th century. It is shaped like a lotus to commemorate the birth of the Emperor’s heir as predicted by a goddess sitting on a lotus. Continue to the Temple of Literature, the most significant temple complex in the city and a testament to the Confucian history of the city. After lunch visit the superb Fine Arts Museum, then walk around the Hoan Kiem Lake area — -Hanoi’s heart, and a great place to admire the boulevards of French colonial architecture that contributes greatly to the city’s atmosphere. This afternoon return to the Old Quarter for shopping.

Day 8: This morning, journey east a little over 03 hours to Bai Chay, the gateway to Halong Bay. En route, pass fields of busy workers farming rice using traditional methods of cultivation. Halong Bay achieved international fame as a key location in the French film Indochine starring Catherine Deneuve. The bay has assumed an important position in Vietnamese legend for many centuries and continues to capture the imagination of visitors. On arrival, transfer to the port for a magical four hours aboard your boat cruising around the bay. Considered Vietnam’s greatest natural wonder, Halong Bay boasts over 3,000 islands that jut out of the sea to provide a spectacular natural environment. Enjoy a fresh seafood lunch on board the boat and, in the afternoon, travel back to Hanoi.

Day 9: Today you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight. End of our service.

Bali Airfares Jetstar

Fly to Asian Hot Spots

Here’s a humorous anecdote for those planning to travel.   Two matronly ladies have this to say to their travel agent: “We’d like to get completely away from civilization, near some nice shopping district.â€Â  Indeed, there are people who are unlikely to get out of their comfort zone, even when they travel to new places.  Most people want to go to places like a pampered tourist—from airport transfers to good hotels to shopping hot spots.  On the other hand, there are also a group of people who would take the less beaten path, so to speak, and explore “un-touristy†places and go on an adventure.  But if they want the pampering of tourist hubs and the adventure of exotic locales, they better surf the internet, and while they are at it, apply for online payday loans to step-up their travel budget.

Australia’s top airline Qantas and budget airline Jetstar Pacific are increasing the number of flights to Asian destinations such as Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam.  Nowadays, jetting off to new places is a cinch.  And, with the economic slowdown hitting worldwide, international airlines are vying to get a big share of frequent passengers by offering huge fare discounts and other flight goodies.  From $500 to $600, an eager employee could take out that amount from an instant payday loan and book a flight to Bali, Indonesia or Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.  If these excited travelers would be more creative, they could search online for added discounts to further lessen their airfare cost, or save some of their travel budget on accommodations and tours.

For travelers to Bali, when talking to their travel agent about their airfare flights, better ask around for other tours as well.  Most tour companies present a good list of places to go to.  However, before eager travelers jump at the first tour company that offers a “good dealâ€, it is advisable to do a little comparison among the adventure or tour packages available.  While at it, Bali is known for water recreation such as swimming and surfing.  If a group of traveling friends and family want a bit of adventure, they should try Gitgit Waterfalls, Bali’s highest waterfall since it is over 100 feet!  For those who want to keep dry, Bali is also famous for great furniture buys.  However, a word of caution, travelers should make sure that they set a limit to their shopping or else they could go broke even before the end of the trip having spent their entire payday loan!

Those who want to go to Vietnam should be sure to see the famous Mekong River floating markets.  Thousands of boat shops gather there, creating a colorful, moving mall.  Eager travelers could also soak up some history by going to the Cu Chi tunnels.  They could explore the intricate tunnels used by the Viet Cong during the war with the Americans.  For those insatiable shoppers, they should go to Hanoi to view the endless selection of art galleries.  With so many places to see, and so little time to see them, wise and thrifty travelers should plan ahead and expect a great trip.

A Specialty Of The Budget Airlines

A special administrative region of China, Hong Kong has been long regarded as the gateway to the nation. Hong Kong is a sprawling cityscape providing a feast of attractions to visitors touring the city in the form of a variety of museums, theme parks, and natural attractions, among many others.

However, its magnificent attractions are the not only thing that draw people from across the world here. The city also provides excellent options for business and educational activities. Many travelers including Americans and Europeans can savor the first taste of Asia by landing at the international airport in Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong.

Traveling to Hong Kong has never been so easier, with a plethora of budget airlines in the scenario. Earlier, air travel was just confined to upper class people including top class executives as well as business magnets. But, with the birth of the budget airlines, anyone could dream of a comfortable air journey. In other words, budget airlines have now become a convenient alternative over shaky buses, inept trains, and traffic-jammed highways.

Budget airlines, otherwise known as no frills airlines, low cost carriers, or low cost airlines, are airlines or flight carriers providing flight services for exceptionally low rates. Sometimes you can travel with a budget airline for more than 50% discount.

The concept of no-frills airlines originally originated during the beginning of 1990s in the US, which later spread to Europe and gradually to Asian destinations. Now the budget airlines are popular throughout the world, and many of the leading as well as reputable airlines in the industry render low cost airline services and that too without sacrificing the quality of the services.

In budget airlines, the pricing of air fares vary depending upon the duration of time between booking and departure. Mostly, the earlier you make bookings for airfare, much cheaper would be the airfare. Likewise, in order to fill the unsold seat in the plane, some airlines would slash the price prior to a few days before its departure.

A specialty of most of the budget airlines is that they cater to almost all types of travelers. For instance, some airlines operate budget flights according to the convenience of the business travelers. There are certain airlines providing incredible deals on air fares for students as well as leisurely travelers. In most cases, budget airline fares are flexible, al though, in some instances, these airlines may charge a nominal fee to make changes in flight reservations.

A number of airlines are in the industry to render you the best in budget travel. With these excellent airlines providing bespoke services. A budget airline provides almost the same superb services that a standard airline offers, such as excellent dining options, superb entertainment facilities, and comfortable as well as soft cabins. Additionally, some of the budget airlines render special services for passengers such as elderly travelers, children traveling alone or not accompanied by their parents, pregnant as well as passengers flying with infants, and passengers who have visual, speech, or hearing imparity.

With the introduction of the internet, it has become quite easy to find a budget airline. Many of the airlines have their own websites with facilities for online ticket booking. This in turn is very convenient. It is not only beneficial for hassle-free bookings but also enable you to know whether they provide any kind of discount or deals for traveling within a stipulated period or during a particular season such as Christmas or New Year.

All you have to do is to just log into their website and inform them regarding the destination you are going to travel and date of departure. All of the rest they will take care. In addition, airfare bookings online is economical, as it enables you to save pennies on issuing tickets. The airlines, in most cases, sent confirmation through a simple document containing flight details as well as booking reference. When you make payments and bookings online, it allows you to easily take a print out of this document as soon as the booking process is completed. In short, with just a click of a mouse you can make bookings for a comfortable air journey.

Flight to London Gatwick International Airport

London Gatwick International Airport is the second laort in Britain as well as the sixth busiest airport in the world. Located about 50 kilometers south orgest airpf London, in Crawley, Sussex, at Junction 9 of the M23 motorway and on the A23 London – Brighton Road, Gatwick International Airport is regarded as a prominent entry point to the country. Owned and operated by the British Airports Authority (BAA), the airport consists of two terminals, such as North and South, both of which together operate about 100 airlines, thereby together serving about 200 destinations, covering African, trans-Atlantic, and European destinations.

The North Terminal handles flights such as Aer Lingus, Delta Air Lines, Iberia flights, Air France, and British Airways. This terminal also serves a limited number of charter flights. On the other hand, the South Terminal serves international, domestic, and charter flights. It is estimated that these airlines together carries more than 30 million passengers every year. Both of the terminals are linked by a monorail, which in turn takes only about two to three minutes to get from one terminal to another.

The history of the opening of the airport dates back to 1930, when it was established as a small flying club. In 1931, it was made a private airfield by the Home Counties Aviation Services. Later, during the Second World War, the airport served as a royal air force base. In 1952, the government took action to make this airport an alternative major airport to London Heathrow. After a year, it was transformed into a public airport. Later, in 1959, new facilities were attached to the airport such as a 2000 ft runway as well as terminal with a railway station.

After sometimes, the M23 was erected in order to connect the airport to London. From 1978, the airport started to provide transatlantic flights. Today, London Gatwick International Airport is attached with the most sophisticated facilities, and has now become the world’s busiest single runway airport.

Situated about 30 miles north of Brighton, Gatwick International Airport offers superb car, bus, and rail transfers. Via car, you can easily reach the A23 Gatwick-Brighton link road, which in turn links Gatwick to Brighton. The Gatwick Railway Station has been directly connected to South Terminal at the airport, and is just a few minutes away from the airport’s North Terminal through a transit train link. This rail station offers about 1000 services per day to and from different parts of the country.

Rail ticket desks are located at the arrival sections of both North and South terminals. Situated on the ground floor of the South Terminal is the airport’s coach station with a ticket desk. Buses also call at the North Terminal. The express coaches No 797 and 717 have services directly to the Brighton Pool Valley Coach Station. Additionally, facilities are made available for both short term and long term parking. Valet parking is also available at the airport.

Apart from these, the airport provides excellent as well as round the clock shopping and eating facilities. With a large number of shops selling gifts, souvenirs, and name-brand items, the airport’s shopping options are truly endless. Further, choices for duty free shopping are made available for international tourists. Likewise, travelers can choose from a number of eating options such as restaurants, cafes, and bars within the two terminals of the airport.

Specialized areas are also within the airport for feeding as well as changing babies, in addition to kids’ play area. Further, a host of facilities are made available for disabled people in the form of disabled car parking spaces, disabled toilet facilities, ramps as well as lifts, reserved seating for disabled people, assistance of specialist staff, wheelchair push, broad access pathways, and induction loop systems in order to help people with impaired hearing. Facilities available at the airport also cover round the clock cash machines, airport executive lounges, baggage storage, business facilities, conference as well as business center for business purposes, internet access, medical center attached with first aid facilities, information centers, pharmacy, post office, and video game arcades.

Above all, Gatwick Airport comes with a selection of hotels and that too with options to make bookings online. Few among the Gatwick airport hotels are Alexander House Hotel, The Clarion Hotel, Corner House Hotel, Express by Holiday Inn, Ramada Plaza Hotel, and Worth Hotel.

Cheap International Fares

Finding Cheap International Flights On The Web

I love traveling. And I am not referring to the annual trips to the same uninteresting places. What I am talking about is trips to exotic destinations, which almost always means traveling abroad.

This is undoubtedly an expensive proposition which is further complicated by the continuous rising of aviation fuel. All these have made me very careful and wise.

Thus, the first thing I have been doing consistently for some time now when I am planning a trip is to search cyberspace for cheap international flights.

Due to the many prejudices that exists with regards to cheap international flights, I simply cannot proceed without shedding more light on some of the blatant falsehood that is associated with this.

The most important misconception is one that infers that when you get a discount tickets for overseas trips, you will end up flying on a nondescript airline with a blighted safety record.

This is simply not true. In fact, the reverse is almost the case because with a little bit of luck, you can even secure seats on your favorite airline that is leaving from the airport that is closest you.

The next warped tale about cheap international flight is that any one who holds such tickets will have to fly standby, an euphemism for your non departure at all. This is the reason why I am writing this; to debunk the misconceptions, and further inform you that it is very feasible to save substantial money on overseas trips even when you buy a seat of your own.

The last of the misconceptions is the one that says that the only method you can use to obtain cheap international flights is when you claim to be a student or an elderly person.. Again, this is wide off the mark. Anyone that is smart enough to take advantage of the offer can benefit from the discount tickets.

Okay, you are now aware that you can indeed benefit from cheap international flights, what next?

Where can you find them ? in most cases these discounts airline tickets can only be found on various travel sites online. However, majority of the websites you come across will be only offer straight discount travel services.

What this means is that your intended departure and arrival dates must be fed into the database of the website, to get a list of the cheapest fares that are available on the stables of all airlines on those dates.

These fares of course will be much cheaper than the one the airlines will quote if you telephone them directly. Wondering how I got to know this? Because I actually checked! This method is one of the easiest way to get cheap international flights.

Some websites uses a bidding system for their cheap international flights. Just like the normal bidding process you are familiar with, you will specify the amount you are willing to shell out for your plane tickets.

And after about two days you will almost certainly receive an e-mail informing you whether you bid was successful or not.

While this is also a good way of finding cheap international fare, you must realize that any amount you specify is a binding offer, and will be penalized if you try to renege on it.

The disadvantage of this is if you happen to find a better deal later on, then it is your rotten luck! Just as when your bid on cheap international flights is too low, your offer will be rejected.

If you are savvy enough, these few information is enough for you to develop your technique of getting cheap international flights for all your future vacations.

Since I don’t pay full fare for my airplane seat, the extra cash can be used for other useful and memorable things on the journey. You can also enjoy this privilege in no time if you adhere to the tips.

How do I buy air tickets from Hong Kong to O’hare International Airport, Chicago with the cheapest fare?

Which website and airlines should I use?
Thanks in advance.

You can check out http://www.kayak.com. I am guessing the cheapest would be either United or Delta/Northwest. What is nice about United is that you can get a non-stop flight from HK to Chicago. Service is average.

Vacation Travel

Reviewing A Reviewer #Vacation! Travel Bores!

What is the best way to search for ground travel fares, for vacation trips?

I’m considering doing ground travel to a place not too far away from here. Air travel is too expensive (especially since my trip won’t be too far into the future) so I’m considering going by train or even by bus (train is preferred.)

How do I go about searching for travel fare? I’m hoping there is a site similar to Priceline or Travelocity that deals with ground travel of this sort.

DETAILS: I’m hoping to travel a round-trip vacation between Portland, Oregon and Calgary, Alberta (Canada, of course). I’ll be travelling sometime this month.

Once again, I’m looking for help with finding places to get trainfare (or anything with ground travel) be it a Priceline-similar site or anything. I just need a way to find and compare prices for travelfare. Any hints, ideas, suggestions? Any help is much appreciated!

Some of the sites I found are:

http://www.amtrak.com/ (doubt if this caters to your route)

Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railroad http://www.dmerail.com

Grand Canyon Railway http://www.thetrain.com

Union Pacific http://www.up.com

I appreciate none of these might suit your purpose, but funnily I was not able to find a search engine similar to that for flights…
