How come our military isn’t offered free airfare?

Bitsy asked:

Everyone I know is schocked when I tell them my son has to pay his own airfare home, doesn’t even get a discount? Can’t our airlines even offer them HALF?
I’m not saying the airlines should give them a free ride, but our federal government that flies our senators, congressman, all around and puts them up at fancy 4 and 5 star hotels could take a few cuts themselves. They eat for free!

I have seen some web sites with postings stating appx $50 savings but am uneasy handing over my money without some proof that a buisness is legit.

2010 Airfare Trends

2010 airfare trends
Fees obscure air travel’s true cost increases
NEW YORK TIMES If you thought airline tickets have been getting more expensive, you are right. But how much more expensive is difficult to say. Official data show that airfares have been rising steadily since January. But fares are only part of the price tag, now that airlines are charging fees for everything from checked baggage to exit-row seats. So those statistics do not fully capture the …

Europe Vacation Package

Where to Find Europe Vacation packages.avi

Mini-Vacation Ideas?

Okay, my husband and I are in dire need of a little vacation…just to get away from work and the miserable country we currently live in (Germany to be precise).

Since we’re military, we can’t go far and we can’t go for long…a week tops maybe. We’re looking for something in Europe and I don’t know where to start. Just to be clear though-we’re not really looking to do sight seeing…even though a few we wouldn’t mind; sun, sand, relaxing and maybe a slightly romantic environment would be nice (emphasis on the sun and sand – if that can be found around this time of year)…and cheap since the Euro rate is a B* against the dollar right now.

A holiday package with a flight and hotel included (plus transportation) is a must. Anyone have any ideas?

Also to add – please do not say Paris. It’s cliche for “romantic” and it’s a dirty city.
Ryan – What’s your problem?

When I was stationed in Germany, just getting away from base for a few days was nice. Even going to Berlin was nice for a few days because I didn’t have to worry about my military duties.
I say go to Amsterdam for a week and relax. Do nothing but enjoy each others company.

Airfare to S. Africa…anyone w/ experience?

I’d like to travel to S.A. for the World Cup next summer but have never flown that far. I’m hoping to take my Dad, as he grew up in that country, but hasn’t been back in years. We both enjoy watching soccer. He lives in the Midwest, and I’m in New England, so we’ll have to fly somewhere to meet and then fly over.
Where’s the best US city (lowest fare) to fly from? I’m guessing Jo-burg is best to fly into? What airlines usually offer best rates? travel dates are flexible….

I have myself just booked the WC 2010 travel, leaving middle of June and returning middle of July. This was with British Airways and I paid $1700 in Premium Economy.

This is of course from Europe and not from the US.

Jo-Burg is the best destination but Cape Town as well. There are plenty of flights SA domestic so you should focus on just getting there. Then you can transport yourself domestic with rental car or air.

You do need a rental car to get around, be sure to book this as soon as you have the flights sorted out. There might be a shortage of rental cars, I did experience this when SA had the Cricket World Cup 2003.

As for the cheapest airfare, you must check expedia.com or other travel sites the upcoming weeks. Not all airlines have yet “loaded” flights for June-July 2010 into the systems. BA did so just two weeks ago.

I believe there are “direct” flights from Miami to Jo-burg with one refueling stop. If this is cheapest or not is impossible to say at the moment. Maybe it’s more attractive to connect in Amsterdam, London, Madrid, Paris, Frankfurt or Ankara. There are many flights from Europe to South Africa, more than from the US.

It’s critical that you check travel web sites during August/September/October. If I were you, I would book latest in October or if you find an attractive price.

Discount Flights to Spain

There has been a rise in the number of Britons purchasing Spanish holidays and discount flights to Murcia on the internet, it has been revealed. According to the Nielson Company, over 85 per cent of people use the internet to make goods and services purchases, representing a 40 per cent in the past two years.

Compare all low cost and cheap flights to and from all airports with one search. Simply include your local airport and your destination airport or region along with your dates of travel into the flight search engine and all available low cost flight options will appear on lowest price order. One simple search to find all cheap flights from all airports to your holiday resort destination. Compare the lowest flight prices from the low cost budget airlines.

One of the most popular purchased goods on the internet is discount flight tickets, accounting for 24 per cent of online purchases. “The internet is no longer a niche technology – it is mass media and an utterly integral part of modern life. Almost no aspect of life remains untouched by online media,” Jonathan Carson, president of Nielsen Online commented.

In the past three months, in the UK one in four internet shoppers also purchased and discount airline tickets or made reservations online. Mr Carson noted that travel is a category that is “extremely suited” to the internet thanks to the “efficient” access to a wide range of comparable information it offers. It is claimed that the internet plays an integral part in the arrangements of today’s holidaymaker.

The expansion of low cost discount airlines has made traditionally hard to reach areas in Spain “very accessible”, it has been reported. According to Primelocation.com, these Spanish holiday areas have been “opened up” by low-cost flights to Spain. The news comes as British Airways prepares to launch its new short haul flights from Heathrow, Gatwick and London City airports to Malaga and Alicante.

“Barcelona and the Costa Brava region as a whole have become more popular with [Britons] in the last two to three years,” Louise Hall, business director of Primelocation.com stated. Additionally, she noted that Mallorca has experienced “huge popularity” in the past few years among holidaymakers seeking a second home. A number of new discount flights to popular summer holiday destinations are being launched by British Airways this summer.

Discount flights to Spain – including Malaga and Palma – will be available from Gatwick in summer 2008, the airline has announced. Additionally, discount flights to Alicante – a popular European summer hotspot – will be launched from the London hub in a matter of months. “As one of the only short-haul, full service carriers at Gatwick, we combine low fares with complimentary food and drink, pre-allocated seats and the opportunity to join the BA Executive Club,” commented British Airways’ commercial director Robert Boyle.

Some Britons may be taking discount flights to Spain for medical treatment this summer, after Post Office reported that cosmetic surgery and other treatment attracts 70,000 Britons a year to Spain and other overseas destinations.

Vienna Airfare

Copenhagen, Vienna, Barcelona or Athens Cheaper?

Hi,

I travel Italy soon and my airfare allows me to stop either Copenhagen, Vienna or Barcelona or Athens.

As my travel covers long period of 3 weeks, cost is a concern for me rather than actual tourist attractions.

Cost in terms of hotel, transportation, food and guided sightseeing tours.

My main is Italy but since I am given one stop for either these 4 cities, which is cheaper to visit?

I look at 4Days in either Copenhagen, Vienna, Barcelona or Athens.

Please some kind advice which is a better deal. Purse string is my concern.

I avoid Switzerland even though one stop is given as I am aware the high cost in Switzerland.

Thank you very much.

While I love Copenhagen, having lived there I can tell you that it is a very expensive city in general.

I was recently in Barcelona and I found it beautiful, w/ plenty to do and I didn’t feel that it was particularly expensive.
It really is a wonderful city, I would highly recommend it.

Book Cheap Vacations

There are a few easy steps involved in finding cheap flights for your holidays. Certain travel dates are going to be more expensive than others, so planning a trip, should be built around the “off season”. The off season is typically when fares are lower and cheap flights are abundant. Flying to  your favorite destination during the off season can literally save you hundreds of dollars. Not only is the season of the year an important aspect involved in finding cheap flights, but even the time of the week that the flight is scheduled for departure can have a huge effect on the cost. Typically it is cheaper to fly during the week on a Tuesday than it is any other day of the week. Prices also tend to go up the closer that the departure date gets to the weekend, peaking on Friday and Saturday and starting to come down somewhat on Sunday.

There are many holiday destinations across the world where travelers flock in large numbers. Some of the most preferred holiday spots of the world are Barcelona, Melbourne, Vienna, Amsterdam, Brussels, Sydney, Paris, Rome and London.

Providing attractive offers on ticket bookings many budget airlines operate cheap flights to the top holiday destinations on earth. Some of the budget airlines are Hansung Airlines (Asia), Blu Roma Express (Europe), Zoom (Transatlantic), Avolar (United States of America), Kulula (Africa) and Air Arabia (United Arab Emirates).

Booking airline tickets is a vital part of traveling. Tourists who wish to save time can go for online booking of tickets can book holidays breaks online. And those who want to get cheap airfares have to book flights well in advance. Some of the flights including the budget airlines also offer the option of frequent flyer miles to the passengers traveling to various spots of the world. Initiated by Western Airlines, today this option is exercised by many premier airliners like British Airways, Emirates, Malaysia Airlines and others.

How to Get Extremely Cheap Airfares

How much should I pay for a honeymoon?

Cheap Auto Rental: Tips For Getting Cheap Rates

Consumers today are hard-pressed to find what can safely be called the best deal for any product, and most consumers are not willing to spend the time or effort searching for the absolute lowest possible price when making a purchase. This is also the situation with car rentals. Car rentals are becoming more and more expensive, as gas prices and inflation rise steadily. The following are several tips that can help you keep your car rental costs low, even as other factors cause prices to rise steadily.

1. Rent your car from internet car rental sites instead of doing it over-the-counter. Internet sites often offer discounts that over-the-counter car rental companies do not and you can make use of these discounts to lower the overall cost of your car rental and save a substantial amount of money.

2. In order to get your cheap auto rental, you should get the most value you can from it. You are usually required to fill the gas tank before you return your car, or the company will charge you for gas. You should fill the car with the cheapest gas you can find on the way to returning it, as the company will charge you relatively high prices for gas otherwise.

3. If possible, you should choose one car rental company and stick to it, as many car rental companies offer discounts or benefits to repeat customers.

4. You can sometimes exchange frequent flyer miles for cheap auto rentals. If you have frequent flyer miles that are on the verge of expiring, instead of letting them go to waste, you should use them to make your car rentals less expensive.

5. Car rental companies will often give you a discount if you reserve your car early, so you should always aim to do so.

6. You should also increase your chances of receiving a discount or free upgrade by going to collect your car early in the morning when most of the company’s cheap rental cars would not have been returned yet.

7. Packages that combine car rentals, airfares and lodging a good way not just to reduce the price of your car rental, but of your airfare and lodging as well. This will ensure that you get the most value for your money.

8. Some internet sites offer a rent-at-your-own-price service, where the company searches for the best possible deal that fits your budget. You should check the company’s history before you make a reservation, however, as some of them is not very reliable. Keep in mind that you will not be able to cancel your reservations once you have made them.

9. Car rental companies often have cheaper rates for weekly rentals so, if you are going to rent a car for more than five days, make sure you check to see if weekly rental rates are available at your rental company.

10. Picking up your rental car at the airport is more expensive due to airport surcharges and you will be better off picking the car up at the shop instead.

Get The Perfect Escapade at Cape Escape Florida

There are so many things to see and do around Florida that it is hard to decide just what to do. Whether it’s a vacation with the kids to Disney World, one of the many beaches, or a leisurely good time along Key West, there are many different opportunities that await.

One of the biggest hassles when vacationing is finding the right kind of lodging. Many hotels are expensive, and usually don’t include many of the things you want, like food. They may offer a continental breakfast, or have a restaurant right there on the premises, but you still have to pay for your meals and this can get expensive, especially if you are vacationing as a family or group. Another problem is that there just isn’t enough privacy.

No matter what, there will be times when you are stuck in a hotel suite with the kids, or friends, and you will have to run to the bathroom to change, or have to deal with noise will you are trying to sleep, or many other uncomfortable situations that may arise.

One way to avoid all these problems is to try one of many Florida Vacation Rental agencies. These sites are designed with the customer in mind. Whether it’s a romantic weekend getaway, or a full-blown week long vacation with the relatives, these sites are sure to please. With many locations to choose from across Florida and beyond you are sure to find a rental that is close to where ever you want to be. No more getting stuck with facilities at hotels that you will never use. Each rental unit listed is marked with information on if it has a pool, within walking distance of beaches, shopping, fine dining, or other attractions.

Size is of your option as well. Whether you choose a condo by the ocean, or a house near one of the many theme parks, or something in between, the choice is yours. Since all the units have separate bedrooms, privacy is not an issue, and even five bedroom units are available.

These vacation rentals are often quite flexible, and you can submit what you are interested in, one that allows pets, or has its own washer and dryer for example. You just submit it along with the area you want and a page of listings is compiled for you. All you have to do then is click on each one for more details, including photos of the rental and surroundings.

When it comes to price, these units can be way below what a hotel with the same features would be. For example, the Captain’s Beach Retreat in Ormond Florida, is a three-bedroom house, walking distance to the beach, with golfing and downtown Daytona Beach within a few minutes’ drive. Sleeps up to eight people for only 895 dollars a week! That doesn’t mean per person either, that’s for the whole unit. That means that a group of eight can expect to pay a little over $100 for the entire stay, less than what most hotels charge per night. You also have a kitchen, so you can prepare your own meals, saving you hundreds of dollars alone.
