How much spending money to take on round world trip?
I am going on a round world trip and was wondering how much spending money I should take excluding airfares, hotels, and other major expenses.
Really I just want guide to how much money ill need for buying food, entrance fees to major attractions (not many just a few each country), small souvenirs and basic transport like taxis and trains.
We don’t plan on eating in restaurants every night (maybe some nights). We will try to eat in cheap but good places. Make out own food from supermarkets ect..
The major destinations in Europe include Paris, Rome, Venice, Berlin, Munich, Barcelona, Portugal
Other cities include New York, Toronto and Tokyo.
We only plan on spending roughly 4-5 nights in each place. Over all the trip is about 60 days and we plan on going in December/January which I hear is the low season.
What would be a good daily spending amount to keep me fed and comfortable?

Singapore – From British Colony to Asian Economic Powerhouse
The Merlion’s origins are a combination of the magical and mundane. Toward the end of the thirteenth century, a Buddhist prince from the Indonesian island of Sumatra founded the Kingdom of Temasek near what is today Singapore. One day, he arrived at a large island, where he saw a terrifying beast. He thought it was a lion, although no lions had ever been seen in the area, nor have they been sighted since. In Singapore, drivers still follow the British practice of keeping to the left side of the road. British influence began in the early nineteenth century when Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles founded the first branch office of the British East India Company here in 1819. Before Raffles arrived, the island had been a desolate place, occupied by only a few fishermen and the occasional Malaysian pirates. Singapore was a British crown colony as well as a commercial port belonging to the East India Company from 1867 to 1963. Since independence in 1964 Singapore has grown into a modern metropolis. More than just business. Though Singapore enjoys a worldwide reputation as a hyper- successful economic powerhouse, “Lion City” is not usually listed among anyone’s favourite tourist destinations. Many travelers only make a brief stop here en route to somewhere else. This is not really far to Singapore, a city that has a great deal to offer.
Its Chinatown Quarter, Arab Street and Little India have been tidied up and polished until they shine. Even the modern areas of city centre have numerous places worth visiting. The cultural life of the city is diverse, and one runs into it at every turn. Singapore has never been more colourful or inviting.

A “New Moon” weekend getaway in Forks, WA
Just for fun, I’ve put together several trips to the Olympic Peninsula that roughly coincide with the projected November release of the second “Twilight†series film adaptation, New Moon. In all three scenarios, I used the same airline and car rental agency (because there really wasn’t a better price) which means the main difference, obviously, is in lodgings.
My choices of airports for each scenario are Cleveland-Hopkins, Akron/Canton, and Pittsburgh International. The cheapest rate available for me was at Pittsburgh International, through Delta Airlines. For a 3 day, 2 night round trip ticket from Pittsburgh to Seattle Tacoma International, the fare was $205 per person. The next cheapest was $293 on Frontier Airlines out of Akron/Canton. Since both flights have 1 hour layovers, the question for me becomes “which would be more within my budget: an additional $88 for airfare or roughly $60 to fill my tank twice driving between Pittsburgh and Cleveland� Add in airport parking fees, and its looking like driving out to PA is the better deal.
Once you arrive in Seattle, you have a 3-7 hour drive ahead of you (depending if you decide to travel northward or southward). For airfare, I used TripAdvisor.com but for the car rental – since I’m a huge fan of William Shatner – I went with Priceline.com. Of all car rental agencies available at the Seattle Airport, Dollar Rental offered the best rates. An economy car is roughly $30 a day or $92.47 for our 3 day trip.
Your choices of lodgings are based on your accustomed level of comfort and your expected daily travel times. In scenario #1, I chose the Forks Motel. Their off season rates begin from 10/15 to 5/14, so in November the daily rates for a room with one queen sized bed and shower are $52 (single occupancy), $57 (double occupancy) and $59 (double occupancy) for 2 queen beds (why anyone might want two beds for a single occupancy is beyond me, but that rate would be $54 a day). The Forks Motel is located on Highway 101 right in town so you are, essentially, right in the heart of the story. For a two night stay is scenario #1, the total cost is $104-$118.
Scenario #2 – We move south of Forks to the Kalaloch Lodge, located right along the pacific coast. Their daily room rates currently ranges anywhere from $149 to $188 single or double occupancy, they are a little pricey but you have your choice of private cabins, the secluded Seacrest Building or staying in the Main Lodge itself. They also offer two “Twilight†themed room packages (1 night for the New Moon package and 2 nights for the Twilight at Kalaloch package, $149+ and $199+ a night respectively) which include a Forks area map highlighting all locations listed in the book, Twilight water bottles, Twilight Trivia and a Special Twilight dessert. The amazing coastal views, beautiful pacific -northwestern woodland surroundings and spectacular room amenities, this is the most comfortable of the three choices but also the most expensive. Since the entire purpose of the trip is a “Twilight†themed weekend getaway, I’d choose the Twilight at Kalaloch room package; making the total cost for the two nights stay $398+.
From the extravagant to the minimal, scenario #3 is the least expensive “travel package†but it requires a certain amount of willingness to “rough itâ€. The Rain Forest Hostel is 13 miles closer to Forks than Kalaloch and offers common rooms, campsites and trailers for couples. Their daily rates start from $5 per person for the camping areas to $21 per couple for the trailers. They provide blankets and pillows, but there is an additional one time charge of $1 if you don’t provide your own sheets. There is also a full kitchen, showers and laundry room that are shared by all guests and you have to do 15 minutes worth of chores for each night you stay, but really the price can’t be beat. I’m kind of a private person, so I’d either chose a campsite or a trailer, which means my total cost for a 2 night stay in the final scenario would range from $10 to $42 dollars (plus a half hour worth of chores).
Totaling it all together – airfare, car rental, and lodgings – the total cost for each scenario package is:
#1 – $401.47- $415.47
#2 – $695.47+
#3 – $307.47 – $339.47

If you are like a great many people, you have often thought about going on a cruise, but you are hesitant to really give it a try.
Perhaps you do not know if you had enjoy the experience, or maybe you think that it would cost too much or that you had be bored or overtaken by seasickness.
If you are concerned that you may become seasick, here’s a news flash for you – cruise liners have been built for many years with stabilizers that limit the rocking motion of the waves. Some cruise ships even have billiard tables that adjust to stay level, so the waves are not a problem!) And seasick pills are quite effective – you can take them before you have a chance to get sick.
Plenty to Do-
If you are afraid that spending your days at sea could become tedious or boring, take a cruise to the Caribbean or along one of the coasts where you land in a different port just about every night. On a coastal cruise, you usually do not spend that many nights at sea. However, if you decide to cruise across the Atlantic or Pacific, then you will be shipbound for a much longer period of time.
Even if you do end up spending a lot of time on the ship, do not worry there is a huge variety of things to do on board – walking around the decks, swimming, shuffleboard, dancing, gambling, eating, and of course – drinking. Now, that last two may sink you (and the boat, depending on how much weight you gain!) if you are not careful.
Cruise lines are really floating five-star restaurants and there is always a place to get something to eat on the ship. From sunrise breakfasts to midnight buffets, to round-the-clock room service, you will never go hungry!
Most cruise ships have two seatings for dinner. One at 6PM and a second one at around 8 pm, so in order to keep your appetite under control, you may want to go for the first seating at 6 pm.
What About Formality?
Perhaps you are afraid that shipboard etiquette is too confusing, that you all feel like an untrained, uncultured oaf. Get that idea out of your mind – except for higher end cruise lines, there isn’t much in the way of formality on cruise vacations these days.
There might be one formal night in a five-day cruise, so you might want to rent a tux or a gown on shore to take with you (you can also do this on board the ship, but of course, everything is a bit more expensive at sea). Even then, only about half the passengers dress up formally and no one is barred from the dining room for not dressing in formal attire. Though most nights are casual, it is a good idea for men to bring a jacket and a sports shirt.
It Won’t Cost a Fortune
Cruising is not just for the wealthy. There are all sorts of bargains, particularly on discount Internet sites. For example, a recent five-day Caribbean cruise out of Miami, with stops in the Grand Caymans and Key West, cost $400 per person for a delightful cabin on the upper floors with a big window. That didn’t include airfare, although you can book cruise packages that do include airfare.
However, in regards to the total cost of your cruise, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Additional Expenses
Your cruise experience can incur some additional expenses. You are expected to tip the waiters and maids at the end of the cruise, at the rate of about $3 to $4 per day. Also, on most cruise lines the food is included in the ticket price, but any alcoholic drinks are not, so you can run up a bit of a bar bill if you aren’t careful. And if you become obsessed by the onboard casino, some dollars could float away pretty quickly there as well.
Most ships also offer tours when you arrive in the various ports and run between $30 and $40 per person. To save money, you can choose to wander around town on your own or hire a cab, which can often be cheaper.
Arriving on Time
Since you will probably be flying to the departure point, you might want to leave a day before the cruise begins, just in case the plane is delayed or your luggage misses your flight. By arriving early, you will have a chance that any delayed or misplaced luggage will find its way to you before the ship sails.
What If You’re Alone?
Cruising is not just for couples – you will find cruises for singles, as well as families, groups, women, gay and lesbian, alumni, themed cruising and much more. You do not need a significant other to cruise – just an Internet connection and a good head on your shoulders.
Study travel website message boards for those looking for roommates and travel buddies. Get to know the person and determine whether you are looking for a constant companion or merely a bunkmate. Just keep your safety in mind as you make your plans!
