Specifically, a 3 week holiday in Brazil, Venezuela and maybe Chile or Argentina and Peru. Staying about half accomodation, half with friends. Paying for half meals. Using public transport/trains/buses for interstate passages. Not buying much, maybe a few clothes and timepieces. Put expected price in US dollars not including airfares to the continent.

remember from the Ecuador down to Argentina you will have seasons too,opposites to season times in US, ex now is fall in US but is spring in chile.
brazil is a big country maybe more expended then others far is hotel, but also what kind the places you looking to visit, hot spots or just traveling trough the country by bus or train.
Colombia,Venezuela and Brazil visit those by bus, if you trough the country will take you about 1-2 weeks go trough each country pick the 5 main towns and expend nite in each one,
Bolivia Ecuador, Peru wil do in just under a week for each one by bus.

Chile,argentina and peru can do by train also,

the average cost p/p can be in a budget of 35-50 USD per tripp of 8-10 hours distances and time can variate due mountains but talk about 400 km or 250 miles per tram,
hotels are go in to be the high expending and ca be from 20 to 200 USD per nite depend class the hotel and accommodations, but since look like you wanna just found some place for sleep with out to many luxury,let me recommend mansiones, posadas,and residencias, is more like a small hotels,now the tipe of hotel can lead you to a bad areas of prostitutes,and drugs areas too,so get advice at local town about no to be in those areas and believe me those areas is areas you don’t want to be if you are not a local person,if you are trying to visit this areas because curiosity for drugs , really don’t be stupid, you can die in those areas by get stab or shoot for ask to the wrong person about drugs,assuming is not the case but is just a tip just in case.
Prostitution is normal and legal in those country’s ,also transsexuals, and they operate in the streets must all the time at night, you will notice because will be obvious,be care full there too, if you see you self in those areas get ot at soon is possible.

lunch’s and dinners from 5-50 dollars depend place .
